Russia may already have it, but if they want the opportunity to get out of an Afghanistan-like quagmire in the rest of Ukraine, if Ukraine offered them the opportunity to claim victory by renouncing its claim on Crimea, Russia should take the W and end the conflict....no questions asked on the “demilitarization” issue or Ukraine’s right to join NATO.
I don't think Crimea should be on the table in these negotiations. It should stay with Russia, particularly if that is what the people there want.
The other contested regions are a different story. I wouldn't budge a bit on them if I were Ukraine until I had to. They may be their biggest bargaining chip in the negotiations. Solving that problem won't be easy, and it has already led to alot of death and destruction.

How is this a victory for Russia in anyway?
Ukraine joining NATO wasn’t ever a realistic scenario even before the war. It just wasn’t going to happen. It’s definitely not happening now. The best Ukraine can hope for is basically going back to the status quo prior to the invasion and even then they’re going to lose some territory.
See War of 1812. Carefully scripted draws let both sides go home and pretend they got something when in actuality, nothing really changed hands.
Ukraine gets the Russkies out of mainland Ukraine and Russia gets to tout international legitimacy to their claim over Crimea.

The claim of their legitimacy in Crimea is irrelevant. It’s theirs, they have it, the people there have Russian passports and pay Russian taxes and vote in Russian elections. The Russian military is there and Ukraine doesn’t have the capacity to take it back forcefully.

And this is why the Poli board is so pro-Putin these days. They'd like to see one of our biggest geopolitical foes get a W just to spite a man and an administration they didn't vote for.

It matters to the extent that if Ukraine gives up sovereignty claims and Russia was officially out of mainland Ukraine, the international sanctions would probably be lifted (at least partially) considering that the Russia would not be in violation of international law for “illegal occupation.”

Good ol Scranton Joe is back at it again. This dude has been talking out of his arse for 50 years and he's going to cause some serious fricking problems because of it. Jesus Christ.
The retard can't say one thing that doesn't get walked back by his fricking babysitters 3 minutes after it comes out of his mouth.

Biden says Putin ‘cannot remain in power’ in surprising Warsaw speech
quote:
President Biden returned to the White House after his trip to Europe to coordinate strategy with NATO allies. During a speech in Warsaw, Poland, Biden addressed the West’s growing tensions with Russia by calling Putin “a dictator” who “cannot remain in power.” A White House official released a statement saying his comment wasn’t about regime change, but about Putin not exercising power in the Ukraine. NBC’s Garrett Haake reports for Sunday TODAY from the White House.

Not a single world leader on the planet takes Biden seriously so it really doesn’t matter what he says. Everyone laughs at him behind closed doors.

Acknowledging this fact does not make one a Russia or Putin supporter. I’m actually supporting Ukraine and am very anti-Putin but if I even acknowledge that the west is conducting a very effective propaganda campaign then I’m labeled a Putin cocksucker. People who say shite like that are absolutely no different than people who only believe Russian media and think Putin is the greatest.
The reality lies somewhere in the middle, and as far as news coverage goes, there is a middle there. It isn't leading the front page, and it takes some effort and reading between the lines to find, but it is there.
I don't like the whole choose one "side" of the media or the other and buy in 100% with no give or take that we seem to have fallen into. But, that goes hand-in-hand with every other aspect of our current society. We've turned everything into an "Us" vs "Them" scenario where no middle ground is ceded. That is what allows people to latch onto the fringes of their chosen media source. It is what blinds them to the fact that they have done nothing but trade the media they hate and distrust for a different media that functions literally the same and uses the exact same playbook.
I don't know how to solve that problem, but I do know it doesn't begin with immediately screaming "Cuck CNN prog-filth neocon sheep" at someone. Seriously, they've been tied into a knot now, and they have no idea how to approach the "enemy" that was on their side not even a month ago. It is an amazing process to watch unfold.

Pretty brutal video you can see on Reddit where Ukrainian soldiers shoot Russian POW’s in the leg. Not a good look and likely to result in atrocities committed against Ukrainian POW’s.

You sure about that?

That invasion would go about as well for Ukraine as the current invasion of Ukraine is going for Russia

Lets look down the road 36, 48 months, Russia is not going to be the big dick in that neck of the woods.

Ukraine isn’t exactly getting out of this war unscathed despite the non-existence of Ukrainian casualty and equipment loss reports. They’re losing plenty of guys too, probably plenty of experienced NCOs and officers too. And taking a peninsula against and entrenched defender much harder than rolling across the Steppe like Russia is currently trying to do.

Ukraine doesnt even have close to the capability of something like that. Best case scenario for them is some kind of settlement allowing russia to keep crimea and the donesk and luhansk regions

Yet, you're rooting for Russia and China to join forces for global domination.
Makes sense...

quote:With all due respect to two fine posters, I disagree. The Russian army is now in a 4000-man per day meat grinder with no command and control, no logistics and no morale. More importantly, Putin cannot stop this war. The Ukrainians are looking for payback. Even if Zelenskyy agrees to a ceasefire, the Ukrainian soldiers won't stop killing Russians until there are no Russians left to kill.
allowing russia to keep crimea and the donesk and luhansk regions
Once the air defense systems negate the missles fired from Russian territory, the days of a separatist Donbas are over. And a few anti-tank lines in Crimea ain't going to help either. If the civilians in Crimea wish to remain Russian, give each one a bus ticket. THAT'S the kind of mood the Ukrainians are in now and for the next 100 years. frick a bunch of negotiations.
