The Chechens are part of Kadryzov's personal army. The fact that they're so well kitted out indicates they're being used for rear area shite, probably terrorizing civilians and any regular troops who may have an idea to retreat or desert. Front line combat troops would be filthy and would have thrown away anything they didn't need.

FWIW there are also Chechens fighting for aUkraine.

I'm just curious why they're fighting for Russia given their previous history. Is it merely a money thing? They get to kill Christians?

It certainly doesn't hurt

But mostly, just business as usual. Their warlord happens to be the puppet in charge of Chechnya thanks to Putin and Allah spoke through him to will his great devoted troops into Ukraine. Nothing more, nothing less. Useful idiotic sycophants who get to go play jihad in Christian land.

They did have two very violent wars with the Russians. It is still surprising to me that anyone that us Chechen and Muslim would fight for Putin solely due to the wars. But lately, Putin has really been talking about Orthodox Christianity as well.

You were pretty much in the ballpark. Money talking too.

NEW: Western officials believe Russian generals are getting killed in high numbers on Ukraine's front lines because of failures to get orders to poorly disciplined troops.

Russian generals have even had to go out to the front lines to stop troops from looting.

Video of Chechen fighters in Mariupol.

I get a kick out of all these tanks over there on both sides with all that reactive armor on them only to be blown the frick up with one Javelin hit. Imagine how much it cost to outfit all those tanks with reactive armor that is basically fricking useless. Then think about all the other areas that money could have been spent.

It is pretty crazy what our MIC has developed over the past 50 years to defeat the Russian Boogeyman. They did a hell of a job it looks like.

Those are, by far, the most well equipped infantry units I've seen so far.

I saw one of the comments about the guy with the white beard dressed in all black having a bunch of ammo strapped to him but he didn't have a rifle.

I can understand that he may be a ranking officer with the unit and his gun is being carried by some private just off screen probably, but it gave me a chuckle when I went back and watched it. He definitely doesn't have a rifle on his person, but he's got about 10 mags strapped on.

Russia can fire all the modern missiles it wants and it will not affect the outcome. If Russia keeps trying to force it T90s and modernized T72s which are vulnerable to Javelins and other ATGMs into Ukraine by the main highways (because they invaded during the Ukrainian mud season) they are going to get destroyed like they have been. Russia has lost over 400 tanks in less than a month. If that keeps up Russia will not have very many modern or modernized MBTs left when the Rasputitsa ends in mid May and their tanks and vehicles can leave the roads actually maneuver.

It protects against getting hit from the side. Which is kind of a big deal given how the ammo is stored in soviet style tanks. The problem is that the Javelin attacks from the top.

Also if you watch the videos of the tanks getting hit by non Javelin ATGMs such as the NLAWs the UK gave the Ukie and the RPGs which Ukraine had tens of thousands of prior to invasion you will see that the ERA protects the tank from the first hit and sometimes even the 2nd hit. The problem for the Russians is that the Ukies bring a lot more than one or two ATGMs to fight when they hit.

The NLAWS are capable of top attack according to the SAAB fact sheet

NLAW Fact Sheet

Maybe the side attack videos are strictly using RPGs ?

No kidding, I haven't seen them do a damn thing. Every video clip from them is highly edited and all seem staged.

Kadyrov dad switched sides during the 2nd Chechen war. Became the defacto leader off Chechnya and became rich. Now his son follows in his footsteps and Putin pays a lot of money into Chechnya to keep him on his side. His military the kardaryovites (sp?). Is basically a personal force and sort of national guard or paramilitary force. They are known for their cruelty or have that reputation so they are intimidating. There was talk they are leaving Ukraine due to high casualties

Could be. It is hard to tell what type of ATGMs is being used when the video only shows the missile for less than a second before impact.
