The calculus has changed since 6/2024. Both on the battle field and in the Whitehouse.
Putin is not attempting to negotiate a cease fire.. he is basically negotiating terms for Ukraines Surrender. Anyone paying attention recognizes that..
Trump's next move will be.... interesting to see...

I dont consider anything you post or say or recommend to be unbiased or even reality.
BTW: Who was right on calling what Russia would demand for the ceasefire?
Not you.
The problem with you is you live in an echo chamber. You only look at one side. You are invested in this with emotions.
You are a Jake Broe. Bro.

There are lunatics in this thread that want the US to drop nukes on Russia. Seriously
I dont understand why so many are surprised or shocked or have no clue as to what the Russians want.
They tell you exactly what they want if you listen to them.
The problem is no one listens to what they are saying. The Russians are very direct and say exactly what is on their minds. Once they state something or a demand you will not hear something different tomorrow or from any other Russian. They are on the same page. You may not agree with it, but they don't bullshite like our politicians do.

Based on the realities on the ground today what are the realistic chances of that happening?
I don’t know. But things can and do change is unforeseen ways all the time.

Things could be much worse for Ukraine in that time also.
True. But Ukraine laying down its arms with no security guarantees seems like a sure fire way for things to get much worse for Ukraine.

If Trump doesn't adopt the Biden policy of continuing to throw weapons into Ukraine their army will be on the verge of collapse or done so already in 6 months. Trump is not going to go down that road.
Yea I defended Biden’s approach for a while, but he really goofed slow rolling bigger weapons to Ukraine. I agree Trump isn’t going to re-arm Ukraine in a meaningful way so don’t really know what their options are.
But Russia’s terms are a full surrender of sovereignty in all but name.

You Zelensky bros are going to be crushed when this ends. I wonder if you will accept reality. You haven't accepted any so far.
You will whine and cry on here for days about how it us all Trump's fault and then chicken will shut down this safespace. Then you will run to DU and reddit and do the same.
I have asked this question for two years on here and have never got one answer.
What can we do that can reverse the situation on the battlefield based on current realities? What do we have left that hasn't already been used and/or failed to stop Russia?

Who is willing to give security guarantees?
Trump- Hell no
Europe
The closest thing Ukraine is going to get to that is that Minerals deal.
The best Ukraine can hope for is a State of Neutrality based on the Austrian model after WWII. Or maybe the Finnish model based on the aftermath of the Winter War.

You are invested in this with stupidity and delusion. You refuse to accept facts and reality. You are blind and driven by your hatred of Trump. 2/3 of you are hardcore leftists and the others are John Bolton neocons.
You Ukraine bros are going to be suicidal when this ends.

When this war ends, Ukraine is going to need a LOT of investment and rebuilding.
Lee B, Couer and others were apprehensive about volunteering for combat, but surely they will volunteer their money and manpower to help rebuild their favorite country.

Terms you know someone won't accept are meaningless.
The US submitted the offer. The US is the mediator. Ukrsine accepred, Russia didn’t.

Is offering $1000 for a new Toyota Tundra a meaningful offer? Of course it isn't. Its laughable to pretend otherwise.
No, but offering 1K as a down payment and holding the car for thirty days isn’t laughable. It seems to me that’s the plan on the table. Both sides stop fighting for thirty days while negotiations start.
Now I understand why Russia didn’t accept. They don’t want peace they want Ukraine.
Ttump wants peace, it seems Ukraine wants the fighting to stop and Russia likes it the way it is now.

Of course Russia isn't clamoring for peace, they're making tangible gains on the battlefield.
They're going to need major concessions and a little coercing.

Hopefully we can tariff Ukraine oil and gas too to help recoup some money.

Heck, they were saying that in 2022. Just more evidence that all of this was nothing but a blood sacrifice for defense contractor dollars and to "weaken" Russia
What?
It’s all evidence that Russia wants Ukraine or at a minimum, part of Ukraine and the rest of Ukraine to be like Belarus. That’s obvious.
The only way to have stopped the enormous loss of life was for Ukraine to surrender. Putin was going for it all no matter what.

This is by far the best article that I have found on the Istanbul Agreement of 2022.
I read this yesterday and there was nothing in the article that made me believe Russia initialed the agreement. In fact it made it sound like Russia was bailing out and adding new hurdles, and Ukraine bolstered by recent successes and Western advice wasn’t buying.
And with no guarantees if their sovereignty wouldn’t agree either.
