I agree. We can only speculate why. Conspiracies or something as simple as he likes the way Putin looks on a horse.

I will be very disappointed if Russia continues to ramp up their attacks, refuse to negotiate, and Trump did nothing.

Based on what I've seen so far regarding the tariffs I have to assume he backs down.

Trump Threatens Russia With New Sanctions

quote:

As Russia continues its assault on Ukraine, entering the third year last week, President Donald Trump is calling on both countries to come to the negotiating table while threatening new sanctions on the Kremlin.

"Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely “pounding” Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED. To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

from CNN...

Russia says Trump's threat of new sanctions won't stop it from achieving its goals in Ukraine
From CNN’s Matthew Chance

New US sanctions would not stop Moscow from achieving its goals in Ukraine, a Russian government spokesperson said Friday, after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose new financial penalties on the country to force a ceasefire.

“The first line of the post is the most important. For many months, the US has been focused on the victory of Ukraine. Now there is recognition of the reality the Ukrainian position on the battlefield is bad,” Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia’s foreign ministry, told CNN in response to the Friday social media post by Trump, which opens by saying that Moscow is “pounding” Ukraine.

“The truth is, Ukraine has lost, because they trusted and relied on the previous White House. In terms of new sanctions, we have faced so many sanctions already and they have not stopped from realizing our goals,” Zakharova added.

Based on what exactly? Russia has shown remarkable ineptitude at combined arms.

Russia's military is basically a very good and very, very, very overused artillery division, then a disorganized mob with guns.

The actual state of their equipment - tanks, jets, helicopters, etc - captured or shot down in the early days showed them to be jerry-rigged and in laughable shape... and they seem to have gotten worse with time.

The advancements on the front are just from shelling a village until there's nothing above one foot tall still standing and the Ukies have to withdraw because they are sitting ducks.

Trump has aided Russia by engineering shortages for the Ukrainians twice, now...

uh... does he mean that he is considering not undoing the large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions and Tariffs on Russia that he's been trying to undo the last couple of days?

And this is where it gets dumb... because Putin will not care about this...

Furthermore, the bridges from Crimea were supposed to be blown if any attempt by Russia to advance from Crimea but those in charge went MIA with money to the Russian side. Southern Ukraine would have not been occupied.

Yes, Russia bribed a lot of Ukrainian local officials to aid the invasion.

The Crimea bridge thing is a big one.

I think it was The Mayor of Odessa who was arrested painting things on the roofs of buildings that housed operations centers, etc., one night early on in the invasion...

Trump is surprised? Really?

I hope I’m wrong, but it seems he’s throwing in the towel, blaming Ukraine and really not doing anything to address Russia.

Absolutely shocking!

I expected them to say they were screwed and immediately give up.

Russia already has like 30k sanctions against it. That card has already been played. Ukraine has no more cards. They lack manpower, nothing changes the War besides that
