UK, France, Ukraine to develop ceasefire plan to present to US

by Martin Fornusek March 2, 2025 12:28 PM

The U.K., France, Ukraine, and possibly other countries will develop a ceasefire plan that will be presented to the U.S., U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in an interview with the BBC on March 2.

Starmer is hosting President Volodymyr Zelensky and other leaders in London to discuss how to strengthen support for Ukraine and ensure a just and lasting peace. The summit is even more crucial now after a fallout between the Ukrainian leader and U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House.

The British prime minister and French President Emmanuel Macron, who visited Washington earlier this week, are seeking to mend the ties between Kyiv and the U.S. and present a united front on Ukraine and Russia.

Speaking to the BBC ahead of the summit, Starmer said the joint ceasefire initiative would be "an important step forward" after the heated exchange in the Oval Office on Feb. 28.

"President Zelensky is rightly concerned that if there's to be a deal, it has to hold. That's why we've talked extensively about what are the guarantees - in what way do we all defend the deal if that deal is made," Starmer said.

Putin, not Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, remains the main obstacle to a lasting peace agreement on Ukraine. Zelensky has continuously reiterated his commitment to obtaining a just and lasting peace in Ukraine through negotiations. (1/3)

I haven't seen anything from a reputable source yet, but supposedly Democrats pressed Zelensky into not signing or trying to alter the minerals deal, which he then essentially tried to negotiate in front of the press in the White House.

Frick UK and France. They are working with Zelensky to try and drag the US into this war. They want the US committed to security guarantees.

Apparently, the insurance claims have been denied.

Russia and Germany lack the ability to repair it or even the poorly maintained compressor stations which would require lifting of sanctions from the US for the required equipment from US manufacturing.

It would need support ships from one of these nations, UK, Netherlands, Norway or Italy which also have comparable technology to repair damaged piping to that from US companies.

I have to admit the Europeans are stepping up their game. Putin can’t like this. As a result of his invasion Europe is getting stronger. I hope this peace plan works out better than Trump’s.
