I didn’t find where they used the phrase waste of time. I asked if someone did,
Btw, quoting two words out of an article without indicating in what context they were made is not necessarily indicative of what the author/writer meant.

ABC News: Trump says they'll try to get Ukraine's land back but firmly rules out NATO membership
After previously saying it was unrealistic for Ukraine to get its pre-war borders back in a peace deal, Trump said he will "try" to return land seized by Russia.
"Well, they fought long and hard on the land ... We're going to certainly try and get as much as we can back. But on the NATO -- it's just that, that's not going to happen," Trump said.
The next President can try to get them admitted into NATO.

Trump is actually cracking on the Russian military. Any of the world leader countries of Europe would destroy Russia. UK, FRA, GER, POL, etc…I mean really they’ve lost like 1 million troops, most of their Navy, most of this armor to a country who gave away their nukes and took 7 yrs to throw together an army lol. Russia has been exposed and all countries know now they really have nothing to fear. Russia is incapable of inflicting any real harm on former Soviet states. Even then their best tactic is corruption and disinformation subversion money laundering. They can’t really execute an invasion of a mid-tier defended country. It’s laughable…Putin has exposed the bear to be more like a nutria rat.

If you actually watched the interview you would know he said "try to get back as much as we can" in negotiations. Trump knows Russia is not giving that land back.
