ISW Update Feb 5 2025
quote:
Key Takeaways:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to demonstrate his willingness to negotiate with Russia from a principled position that preserves Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the long run.
Zelensky reiterated that the Ukrainian Constitution bans Ukraine from holding elections during wartime, but that Ukraine remains committed to holding elections in accordance with Ukraine’s constitution and laws after the war ends.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on February 4 that Russian forces have suffered roughly 300,000 to 350,000 killed in action (KIA) and roughly 600,000 to 700,000 wounded in action (WIA) since the February 2022 start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces conducted a strike against an oil depot in Krasnodar Krai on the night of February 4 to 5 as a part of an ongoing strike campaign against Russian defense industrial enterprises and oil refineries.
The Russian military continues efforts to restructure Russia's peacetime military administrative control over military services (???; vid) and is apparently disaggregating administrative control for Russia’s Air Force and Navy from Russia’s military districts.
The Kremlin continues to prioritize domestic political stability over efforts to mitigate economic pressure and labor shortages.
Ukraine and Russia conducted a one-for-one prisoner-of-war (POW) exchange on February 5.
Russian forces recently advanced near Kupyansk, Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Kurakhove.
Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Pokrovsk.

Certainly not with the military aid, which is all that I care about.

I’m glad your tax dollars only go specifically to military aid. That’s smart to elect to send them to only what you care about

Part of this is an intentional change in tactics, emphasizing speed and lower visibility. Russia isn't out of tanks yet, though they may be starting to conserve some.
Remembering that the "vaunted" T-34 was only good for 300 miles or less before complete overhaul needed, you cannot maneuver much after being dropped at the front.
It is not just being damaged in battle but also attrition due mechanical reliability.

Putin thinks time is on his side. Sadly he may be right, says Alexander Gabuev
An amusing opinion from a Berlin policy wonk. In the entire article there is zero mention of either Russian interest rates or the nightly drone campaign destroying Russian refining capacity - the two most critical problems Putin has.

Their budget last year was 50 billion and I saw where that is .7%.
Imagine what they will find in the other agencies. This is criminal.
36 trillion in debt and these criminals have set up their own fantasy world.
They're finding that money has been flowing to MSM groups - paying them to spread propaganda. Politico, Reuters, and Bill Kristol have been called out so far. I bet that is just the tip of the iceberg.

So you'r saying that posting something from an organization that received US tax payer money is bad but posting from posters and organization that receive Russian tax payer money is ok? Your mother must be so ashamed of you.
The Russians are at liberty to spend their own peoples' tax money however they like. If the Russian people don't like it, they should do something about it.
Meanwhile, I do not want my hard-earned US tax-dollars to fund pro-Ukrainian propaganda, and neither should you.
The gravy train is running dry. Politico can't make payroll now that Trump / Elon shut off the USAID spigot.
Get used to it.

zelensky is no different than hamas, using the dead bodies of his people as a negotiating tool while he jet sets around the world from his vineyard in Tuscany to his penthouses in Miami and on the southern coast of France.
"nato or nukes". How about go fck yourself. Trump made the assumption cargo pants actually cared about the destruction of his people and his country. Just like the pelosis, clintons, et al, its all about the power and fame.
Perhaps he can call nuland or samantha power for a better deal

Would that be the same William Kristol that is on the board of the ISW?

The name of Bill Kristol's foundation is Defending Democracy. I saw where they have been accepting money that originated from USAID.
I also saw that ISW has done the same, although I don't know if Kristol is on the board. He probably is.

Fake news. russian disinformation Even russian news outlet Pravda admits it
"And here one would again lament the need for fact-checking in the domestic segment, if it weren't for the amusing fact: the disinformation spread very well in English-language social media.
This was largely facilitated by Elon Musk, who reposted the news on his X account as part of a personal media campaign criticizing USAID. Donald Trump Jr. acted similarly. "
Disinformation about Angelina Jolie, the so-called Ukraine, and USAID: so bad it's actually good
