I wonder how Tulsi will try to spin what is going to end up essentially being Syrian death squads indiscriminately murdering Ukrainian citizens?

Would you prefer she use it as a reason to send in 100k American troops?

Per Reuters:

quote:

LONDON, March 7 (Reuters) - Russia has told Ukraine it is ready to halt military operations "in a moment" if Kyiv meets a list of conditions, the Kremlin spokesman said on Monday.

Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was demanding that Ukraine cease military action, change its constitution to enshrine neutrality, acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory, and recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent states.

Am I the only one who thinks these are pretty reasonable terms to start negotiation?

You could probably get them to soften on some of those issues. Seems like a win for Ukraine. But if they want to fight to the death then I’m not going to stop them.

If I was Ukraine I would agree to never join nato then quietly acquire nukes overnight like Israel did. That’s the only thing that will deter Putin.

Weren't those Putin's demands before he invaded?

A “reasonable” set of terms would be a) Ukraine go ahead and recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea (as this is already moot point considering Ukraine withdrew forces from there years ago) and b) Ukraine offer the separatist regions a chance to formally and legally declare their independence through popular referendums.

In returns Russia acknowledges Ukraine’s sovereign right to join NATO.

Like what? Anything less would be an objective loss for Putin

Yeah, the “neutrality” demand alone is akin to subjugating Ukraine as a Russian client state.

True, but that could be a possibility now.

While I agree, I don’t think Putin will find it reasonable and therefore wouldn’t accept. If the reported terms are true and complete, this is probably the best terms Ukraine will get at peace without external fighting support to help them win the war. Not saying they should or should not accept, but this may be their least painful chance.

European constitutions change far easier and more frequently than ours, theirs could be changed later. Presumably Ukraine could work in secret with the EU & NATO and simultaneously change their constitution. Hard to imagine them being able to do so without Russian intelligence knowing though. Overnight nuke transfer would be seen as an act of war most likely.

Who was the moron in the Russian MIL that apparently assured Putin this was a good idea and would be over in a few days? This will likely drag on for a very long time.

Those people aren't going to willingly hand over their country. Lots of them remember what things were like living under Moscow's boot.

I'm amazed at how bad the Russians suck at holding objectives once captured.

Even if half the stories of Ukraine retaking stuff that had already been overrun are true, it shows how inept they really are.

Interesting...

I think this is more favorable than Putin's initial terms...
