Jomini is also very honest about Ukrainian struggles and the dangerous position that they are in. Too much western analysis ignores that the pace of Russian advance is increasing -- and what if that trend continues?

At present, Ukraine is still conducting active retreats in key areas and destroying lots of Russian equipment in the process, but there's the risk that they might eventually be unable to do that.

Maybe, that is normally not that accurate source of information except for market prices.

ISW Update Nov 5

quote:

Key Takeaways:

The first North Korean forces have likely officially engaged in combat against Ukrainian troops in Kursk Oblast.

The Kremlin appointed the first-ever "Time of Heroes" program participant to a federal-level position, furthering its ongoing effort to staff government positions with pro-war veterans and set long-term conditions for the militarization of Russian government bodies from local to federal levels.

Russia launched two Iranian-made satellites into orbit on November 5 via a Russian space-launch vehicle, furthering a trend of Russian-Iranian bilateral space cooperation.

Russian forces recently advanced southeast of Kupyansk, northwest of Kreminna, in Chasiv Yar, near Toretsk, southeast of Pokrovsk, northeast of Kurakhove, near Vuhledar, and north of Robotyne.

Ukrainian forces recently regained lost positions south of Chasiv Yar.

The Russian military is struggling to maintain a sufficient number of quality personnel within traditionally elite forces.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday blasted the scale of U.S. support for Ukraine and said that if he is reelected in November he would immediately "have that settled."

At a campaign rally in Detroit, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling him “the greatest salesman of all time” for Kyiv’s push to secure U.S. support in its effort to defend Ukraine against Russian aggression more than three years after Moscow's all-out invasion.

“He just left four days ago with $60 billion, and he gets home, and he announces that he needs another $60 billion. It never ends,” Trump said.

More from Trump:

Trump took his criticism to a new level at a campaign rally on Saturday in Conway, South Carolina, when he recounted what he said was a conversation with the "president of a big country".

"Well sir, if we don't pay, and we're attacked by Russia - will you protect us?" Trump quoted the unnamed leader as saying.

"I said: 'You didn't pay? You're delinquent?' He said: 'Yes, let's say that happened.' No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them (Russia) to do whatever the hell they want. You gotta pay," Trump said.

Putin has no plans to congratulate Trump, a Kremlin spokesperson says

Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans to congratulate Donald Trump, the Kremlin spokesperson said, adding, “Let's not forget that we are talking about an unfriendly country that is both directly and indirectly involved in the war against our state.”

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia is carefully monitoring information on the US election and is unlikely to give an official assessment until it sees “concrete words and actions.”

“There is still some waiting to do, considering that the current US president will remain in office for almost another month and a half,” Peskov said in a regular press briefing on Wednesday.

Peskov highlighted “significant statements” from Trump, including what the Kremlin referred to as “his desire to end the ongoing policies of extending old wars and starting new ones.”

“As he prepares to enter, or when you have already entered the Oval Office, we recognize that sometimes statements take on a different tone. Therefore, we are carefully analyzing everything, observing, and will draw conclusions based on specific words and actions,” Peskov said.

“We have said repeatedly that the US is in a position to help bring an end to the conflict. Of course, this cannot be achieved overnight.”

When asked if Trump might be offended by Putin's lack of congratulations, the Kremlin spokesperson added: “It's practically impossible for relations to worsen any further. Relations are currently at their lowest historical point.”
