I really don't think so. Russia desperately wants this attack to have been planned by Budanov, but that's simply not believable. I think that most Russians know, deep down, that Ukraine wouldn't do this, but that Islamic radicals absolutely would.

I have just been told over there that Russia by all accounts has tried to minimize civilian casualties.

In the Iraq War, it is estimated that from 2003-2023 approximately 174,000 civilians were killed vs. 39,900 combatants.

As of February 2024, between 10,500-12,000 civilians have been killed in Ukraine. Compared with the military deaths at 400,000 (conservative).

Where's the lie?

Russian security services cut off Crocus City Hall terrorism suspect's ear during interrogation and make him eat it

quote:

One of the suspects implicated in the terrorist attack had his ear cut off by the police. A video capturing this brutality surfaced on the pro-war Telegram channel known as the “Special Assignment Channel.” In the footage, an man in camouflage forcefully pins the detained suspect, who is lying on his stomach, to the ground with a knee while forcibly placing a piece of the severed ear into his mouth.

Earlier, a video featuring the interrogation of the same man, who identified himself as Rajab Alizade, surfaced on the ANNA News Telegram channel. In this recording, the man is depicted sitting with a bandaged head, wearing blood-stained clothing.

Context, Sergei. The lie is always in the context.

quote:

Iraq Body Count project data shows that the type of attack that resulted in the most civilian deaths was execution after abduction or capture. These accounted for 33% of civilian deaths and 29% of these deaths involved torture. The following most common causes of death were small arms gunfire at 20%, suicide bombs at 14%, vehicle bombs at 9%, roadside bombs at 5%, and air attacks at 5%.[88] The IBC project, reported that by the end of the major combat phase of the invasion period up to April 30, 2003, 7,419 civilians had been killed, primarily by U.S. air-and-ground forces.

Man you know US forces, abducting civilians and suicide bombing everyone.

I have zero problem with a country, including the US torturing terrorists that attack the public with the intent to kill as many people as possible.

I do agree wholeheartedly. Fun fact, interrogation drugs have been around for more than 40 years. Violence or coercion is not necessary. But I guess it depends on the circumstances.

Drugs aren't nearly as good of a deterrent as some old-fashioned physical torture.

Mooslim extremists only take you seriously when you're serious business.

My only thing is I wouldn’t put it past Russia to go grab some poor schmuck who barely speaks Russian, tell him “you shot all those people”, and cut off his ear- just to look like they’re in control.

Interesting convo with now deceased friend who served in the same squadron as McCain in Vietnam. He was also rebelious because he was in NROTC instead of ROTC or West Point like his daddy general was along with long line of officers in the US Army.

When the question of McCain having been a traitor while POW, he told me two things, every man has a breaking point and it isn't always pain or drugs. McCain was a POS before he was shotdown, everyone in the squadron loathed him as a backstabber. The CO and everyone up the food chain feared McCain's daddy.

A guy I knew was Intelligence in Iraq when I was over there once. Our Intel and counterintelligence guys weren't saints. They used to lock them in lighted rooms blasting Flogging Molly for 24 hours a day. Then a little interrogation with some intense physical pain. Supposedly the Muslims hated Flogging Molly.

The guy I knew, an E-7 at the time had to go on TDY to Ft Carson to testify in some military investigation against his Warrant Officer about their "torture" SOP.

Those frickheads weren't military combatants. They are terrorists and should be treated accordingly.

Explosions in Sevastopol. Air raid sirens are sounding in the city.

The Kerch Bridge has been closed for traffic.

"Several aerial targets were shot down in Sevastopol," the so-called "governor" Razvozhayev said.

Crimean Telegram channels report hits in the headquarters of 810th Naval Infantry Brigade.

Local media also report hits on ships in Sevastopol.

No official information at the moment.

update: reports of Belbek airfield also hit.

Except for when they are being tortured to say they were working for another country so that the torturer can use their confession to increase military operations against civilians in that country.

Except they'll say whatever they have to in order to stop the torture, and the intel you'll get will be incredibly unreliable. I have no doubt it feels like the right thing in the moment, but it doesn't actually solve anything or make a future attack any less likely.

It's not always about what they say. At that point, it's gibberish and untrustworthy. It's about doling out pain and retribution.
