I wonder if it was the same incident as that A50. They often operate together. The IL22 acts as a communications relay for the A5O, which lacks sufficient bandwidth.
The Russians shot down 2 of their own aircraft?

The Ukrainian Armed Forces just shot down a Russian Il-22M.
I'm not seeing any confirmation on this yet. Nor for the Su-34 that Visegrad24 reported earlier. We'll see. I think their reliability is questionable if these 2 reports aren't confirmed.

I don't know if the X account I posted is legit or not but the screen shot from TASS definitely says 2 aircraft were shotdown. The IL-@@ usually flies with the A50 so it is highly possible.

Oh really, russians report about negative landing of IL-22 together with A-50.
I posted that one just because I love how Russia described it as a negative landing.

What do I know, a friend sent me a copy of the notice to nearby residents of NAS JRB that VFA-125 F-35's will be participating in exercises for the next 30 days.

Key Takeaways:
Ukrainian officials reported that Ukrainian forces shot down a Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft on the night of February 23 – the second such aircraft shot down in 2024.
Russian ultranationalists are increasingly attributing the shootdown of Russian aircraft to Russian rather than Ukrainian air defenses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian forces are planning future counteroffensive operations, although delays in Western security assistance will likely continue to generate uncertainty and constraints on these operations.
Ukraine-based open-source organization Frontelligence Insight reported on February 22 that Russian forces are storing missiles and ammunition in previously abandoned facilities near the Russo-Ukrainian border and in occupied Ukraine to shorten and bolster Russian logistics lines.
Ukrainian officials stated that the probability of a Russian ground attack on Ukraine from Transnistria, a pro-Russian breakaway region of Moldova, is low following reports that Transnistrian authorities may call for or organize a referendum on annexation to Russia on February 28.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia “essentially” froze its participation in the Russia-dominated Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) against the backdrop of deteriorating Russian-Armenian relations.
The US, United Kingdom (UK), Canada, and the European Union (EU) announced new sanctions packages aimed at constraining Russia’s war effort in Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces made confirmed advances near Kreminna, and Russian forces made confirmed advances near Kreminna, Bakhmut, and Donetsk City.
Ukrainian Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) Deputy Chief Major General Vadym Skibitskyi stated on February 23 that international sanctions are degrading the quality of Russian missiles amid continued Russian efforts to increase missile production.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) provided additional details on February 22 about the forced deportation of Ukrainian children from Ukraine to Belarus.

Looks like it was Ukrainian air defense that shot down the A-50 after all. It wasn’t the Patriot though but the ancient S-200 which had the range to hit the aircraft. Honestly with a rocket that old I think Ukraine got a pretty lucky shot but it did the trick.

In just over 1 month Ukrainian Air Force has negative landed:
1 x A-50 (AWACS)/crew of 12-15 specialists - Sea of Azov
1 x A-50 (AWACS)/crew of 12-15 specialists - Crashnador Cry
1x IL-22M (command center) - waiting for confirmatory video of unscheduled disassembly
5x Su-34 (bomber)
2x Su-35 (air superiority fighter)
Eternal Flights comrades!
Oh, wait... I spoke too soon. Add to that a last-minute Su-34 in Heniches'k, Kherson. LINK

For today, the second anniversary of the Three Day Special Operation, let's review some victory posts of Russian propagandists two years ago.
- We cut the Black and Azov seas from Ukraine, Troops landed in Odessa from the sea and air.
- Turks Show in advertisements how your Bayraktars work against Russia. There are no Bairaktaris and command posts.
- Ukrainian air defense no longer exists; our aviation will be in the air.
- Our troops advancing from the Transnistria
- ruSSian aviation suppressed Ukrainian air defense on the first approach, and there was nothing left for the second approach.
- Ukrainian air defense no longer exists.
- The Ukrainian government is paralyzed and the troops are demoralized. Ukrainian army is defeated
- Kharkov is blocked, there is no resistance, Kharkov is a Russian city.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 24 February 2024
Russia originally deployed approximately 130 Battalion Tactical Groups for its invasion of Ukraine. This likely included approximately 1,300 tanks, over 5,000 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVS) and armoured personnel carriers (IAPCs), and at least 100,000 personnel.
In two years of conflict, Russian losses match - and in many cases surpass - those that comprised its original force. Confirmed Russian losses include over 2,700 tanks and 5,000 IFVs and APCs. Russia's killed and wounded are likely approximately 350,000 personnel.
Mobilisation and recruitment, production and refurbishment of existing stockpiles means that losses have been replaced. Russian forces in Ukraine are now larger in number than at the start of the war. It is now able to maintain attacks along the front line and pursue a strategy of attrition against Ukrainian forces.

Ukraine's Defence Intelligence and Security Service attack steel plant in Russian Lipetsk – video
Roman Kravets, Roman Petrenko — Saturday, 24 February 2024, 12:02
Specialists from Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) have successfully attacked a Russian steel plant in Lipetsk using Ukrainian-made drones.
Source: Ukrainska Pravda sources in the DIU
Details: The Novolipetsk Steel Plant is one of the primary producers of armoured steel for Russia's defence.
One source said that the refrigeration unit and coke oven battery were affected, which are crucial components in the technological cycle.
Another source said rough estimates indicate that production may be significantly hampered for over a month as a result of the attack.
UP has also obtained a video showing the launch of one of the drones that attacked the plant.
For reference: Media reports said that the owner of the affected plant is oligarch Vladimir Lisin, who is reportedly close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Forbes estimates that he is one of the three richest people in Russia.

Lord David Cameron made a real strong case for Ukraine and dragged Putin through the mud at the UN General Assembly. He nailed it all.
"It is a tragedy that Putin prefers to hark back to the ninth century to justify aggression rather than taking up this offer of a different path."
"This is not a man seeking compromise - rather, this is a neo-imperialist bully who believes that might is right."
David Cameron speech

Australia will be asked to consider donating its entire fleet of aging Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a broader package of military support that includes ammunition desperately needed in the war-torn country.
On the second anniversary of Russia's brutal invasion, the ABC has learnt Ukraine is finalising another formal request to acquire the Army's M1A1 vehicles which are due to be replaced from next year by the M1A2 version also made in the United States.
Sources inside Kyiv have confirmed that over recent weeks meetings involving Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov have included discussions about approaching the Albanese government to donate all 59 tanks that make up Australia's older fleet.
Last year Ukraine had urged the Australian government to join an international "tank coalition" and in May submitted an official letter asking for 14 of the Army's aging tanks along with training, a request which has not yet been agreed to.
If the Biden administration was smart, it would increase production at the Lima assembly plant so that it could get Australia the new M1A2s it ordered faster like it did with Poland so it could give its M1A1FEPs which do not have the depleted uranium armor that the USA doesn't want Russia to get ahold of.

The Pentagon tried to kill production there, Trump is the only reason we still have it.
