So why did Russia initially invade several other Oblasts in 2022 only to be thrown back?To be fair he used the present tense.

Sure he did. They say whatever they need to say to reinvent themselves.

The notion that all they wanted was the four Oblasts is BS. They can say something else now, but you can’t trust them.

Ukraine taking Height 197 means that they now have complete fire control over Klischiivka and will soon take the town, if they haven't already done so.

Taking Klischiivka will enable Ukraine to now make another major advance on the southern flank of Bakhmut.

Still waiting on Klischiivka to be taken. What happened?

Obviously someone was overly optimistic, and it’s more of the same. Neither side is gaining much of anything right now.

I have talked to a lot of friends that I have in Ukraine. The mood on the street in Ukraine is that the USA is doing just enough to keep Ukraine from losing and they do not believe the USA really wants Ukraine to win.

All I can say to that is they can go frick themselves, they have been given one of the greatest aid packages in the history of mankind at great expense to the US taxpayers.

We gave Russia way more. What do you say to the Russians who have actually killed our soldiers and aided our enemies?

I’m on the side of Ukraine, but it’s pretty obvious we are giving weapons to secure a stalemate more than anything else.

At the same time, Russia has been fighting oddly as well. Interesting they haven’t killed Kyiv’s electricity for instance.

From 1941 through 1945, the U.S. sent $11.3 billion, or $180 billion in 2016 dollars, in goods and services to the Soviets.

Also worth noting from Wikipedia
quote:

The dispute remained unresolved until 1972, when the U.S. accepted an offer from the USSR to repay $722 million linked to grain shipments from the U.S., representing 25% of the initial debt with inflation taken into account, with the remainder being written off.

Korean War
quote:

Soviet pilots were active in Korea from November 1950. In order to hide this direct Soviet intervention, precautions were taken to disguise their involvement, open knowledge of which would have been a major diplomatic embarrassment for the USSR.

Soviet pilots wore Chinese uniforms when flying, whilst rules were prescribed to stop Soviet pilots flying near the coast or front lines (where they might be captured if shot down) and from speaking Russian on the aircraft radio. All aircraft flown carried Chinese or North Korean markings.[17] When not flying, for reasons of ethnicity, on the ground Soviet pilots 'played' the roles of Soviet commercial travellers rather than Chinese or North Korean soldiers.

Vietnam War
quote:

Moscow now became North Vietnam’s main benefactor. Like China, the Soviet Union increased its aid to Hanoi after the US military escalation of 1965. The true extent of this support has never been fully disclosed, though it was certainly substantial.

In 1966, there were widespread reports that North Vietnamese fighter pilots, aircrews and anti-aircraft gunners had received training in the Soviet Union. It was subsequently revealed that around 3,000 Soviet personnel served in North Vietnam in 1964-65 and that some were responsible for shooting down US planes.

By the spring of 1967, TIME Magazine was reporting that a “river of aid” was flowing from Russia into North Vietnam. According to some analysts, by the late 1960s, more than three quarters of the military and technical equipment received by North Vietnam was coming from the Soviet Union. Unlike the equipment and weapons supplied by Beijing – which demanded deferred payment – most Soviet assistance was supplied as aid rather than loans.

Or more recently, not direct Russian troop involvement
quote:

American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan — including targeting American troops — amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there, according to officials briefed on the matter.

Polish authorities are considering the possibility of complete closure of the border with #Belarus

Such a decision may be taken in connection with the attempts of mercenaries of the PMC "#Wagner" to penetrate into the Polish territory, said Deputy Foreign Minister of #Poland Pawel Jablonski, quoted by CNN.

"We are very clear that we will not make concessions. Obviously there will be attempts [by mercenaries to get into Poland]. We expect more attempts to attack our border, possibly violations of our airspace," Jablonski emphasized. He also added that the Wagnerians "will try to show that they can do whatever they want."

"We are increasing the number of troops in this region," Jablonski noted. He did not specify the extent to which the additional contingent would be deployed.

In response to a question about the possible closure of the border with Belarus, Jablonski emphasized: "We are considering any measures necessary to protect our territory, our citizens, including the complete isolation of Belarus, including the complete closure of the border."
