Obviously it was hyperbole but I did the actual math and it comes out a hair over 1,500,000 per acre, not much less stupefying.

Where are you getting this?

As of November last year Ukraine had liberated almost 75k sq KM LINK

Assuming 100B in assistance its just under $5,400 an acre. If you assume 50B in assistance it's $10,800 an acre

And Ukraine has liberated more since then.

I mean I get it's not really all that important, but curious how you are getting over 100x the actual value

The part of this thread that I like is posters trying to find the facts of what's going on beyond the fog of propaganda.

PT is mostly ideology with little interest in looking under the hood.

I've heard nothing but positive spin around this counteroffensive.
I can think of two regulars here who I would consider overly optimistic and even they haven't declared a "Ukraine Victory", although I think they probably try too hard to put a positive spin on events.

There's actually been a ton of discussion and hand wringing over the slow progress of the offensive, and many regular posters are of the opinion that if Ukraine hasn't made major progress by the end of the year that, it's probably time for Ukraine to consider cutting their losses.

Are some guilty of hyperbole? Sure. But to say the thread is full of declarations of a Ukrainian victory is hyperbolic in the extreme, and I would be surprised if you could cite two or three examples of anyone declaring victory for Ukraine, and outright shocked if you could provide more than that.

This thread has jumped the shark and should be moved to the poliboard. It’s hilarious how emotionally invested some of you are in a war that really has very little to do with us outside of us paying for the majority of it.

Yet you show up in a regular basis to play devil’s advocate. Is the joke on you?

If we’re gonna be talking about the Q thread then I suppose it is.

Looks like Belarus is getting back into things

You think Ukraine should cede territory to Russia gained through aggression, but if they did and built up and attacked “Russia” to take back their territory a decade from now you’d bitch about Ukraine doing it.

Weird, Russia has taken hundreds of towns/villages in the east..why hasn't this happened yet?

Other than in the several where it did happen? Go ahead. Admit Bucha happened without resorting to “but Ukraine.” You won’t. Guaranteed.

Concern trolls are still trolls. He still supports Russia invading its neighbor, murdering civilians, raping Ukrainian women, and kidnapping over 17,000 of its children, but he wants to be seen as reasonable and moderate about it all.

What a joke.

Nah. The war would’ve been over months ago without our bombs and bullets.

Don’t play dense. That’s not the point I’m making and you know it. There would still be guerilla conflict across the country, including in urban areas. You’re right of course that Ukraine has staved off further russian progress thanks to our support. But Russia has shown its colors. Even without our aid, they wouldn’t be able to swoop in and put the clamps down overnight. An invasion of Kyiv would still be catastrophically destructive. Russia couldn’t even handle Chechnya withiut western aid to the latter.

And then what? Peace and comfort for Ukrainians living under Russian administration?

I think Ukraine's leadership should be realistic about the situation that they're in, instead they choose to mislead their population with fantasies of expelling Russia from the Donbas & Crimea. If they continue losing manpower and resources at this rate, they're going to end up ceding far more territory to Russia. Y'all won't admit it but popular support in the West is fading fast and it's only a matter of time until the aid shipments slow significantly. The best case scenario for Ukraine right now is to negotiate peace, dig in, and save what manpower they left. This is the real world, what's fair rarely factors in.
