Between 30-50% of the Russian ground forces are conscripts serving mandatory one year terms. There are two intakes, in the fall and spring, so half of them will be finishing their enlistment in a month or two, taking with them what little experience they gained in a year's time, to be replaced by completely raw recruits. If this isn't wrapped up by early summer, it will be a big strain on the Russian military.

The Russian Air Force is not bad. The Russian Navy is getting better but still has big problems. The Russian army's elite formations range from okay to pretty good. The regular ground forces are better than a third world army but not a whole lot better.
