A grainy black-and-white gunsight video Russia released this week to bolster a claim its military blew up some of Ukraine’s most fearsome tanks actually documented the destruction of a tractor, according to a visual analysis by The Associated Press.

The Russian Embassy in Washington announced Monday on Twitter its forces had “annihilated” eight German-made Leopard tanks, among the most advanced and powerful weapons NATO countries have provided to Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Defense then posted a video Tuesday on the social media network Telegram with text saying it showed “footage of the destruction of foreign armored vehicles, including Leopard tanks.”

The video was shown extensively by Russian state-controlled broadcasters and news sites, which said it was recorded from the thermal imaging system of a KA-52 Alligator attack helicopter.

Several black silhouettes of vehicles can be seen, before the helicopter launches a guided missile that strikes one, causing it to explode. “Direct hit!” says a voice on the recording, speaking in Russian.

Well from an international standpoint the news seems to be that the Ukranians have made little headway and it is brutal on them, even zelensky said so.

He just needs to back off, sit down with the Russians, give them the reclaimed land and call it a day....while he still can.

This is a colossal waste of money and people.

UPDATE ON UKRAINE 10 June 2023

In the last 48 hours significant Ukrainian operations have been taking place in several sectors of eastern and southern Ukraine.

In some areas, Ukrainian forces have likely made good progress and penetrated the first line of Russian defences. In others, Ukrainian progress has been slower. Russian performance has been mixed: some units are likely conducting credible manoeuvre defence operations while others have pulled back in some disorder, amid increased reports of Russian casualties as they withdraw through their own minefields.

The Russian Airforce has been unusually active over southern Ukraine, where the airspace is more permissive for Russia than in other parts of the country. However, it remains unclear whether tactical airstrikes have been effective.

Lukashenko’s days are numbered IMO. I’m surprised the military hasn’t turned on him already. Now would be the time with Russian army depleted in Ukraine.

Question id like to know about the dam break - has that presumably wiped out all small craft boats that were operating down river and in and around the skirmishes going on around the islands.

I know Ukraine had gotten a handful of river patrol boats. I’m curious to know what could and could not survive the resulting river surge. I guess where did it act like violent storm surge and where did it act more like a rising tide.

“Taking advantage of the fact that the enemy was conducting rotational activities and swapping its units, we were trying to strike at the enemy and counterattack. During the last 24 hours, we managed to advance up to 1400 meters (0.87 miles) in different areas,” Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesperson for the Eastern Grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said on national TV.

Russian forces are “actively defending and trying to hit our units,” he added.

“We are moving towards a trend where our forces will be in more favorable positions than the enemy. We have already taken a number of hills,” Cherevatyi said.
