I've read that:

It makes a Ukrainian crossing harder

It makes a Ukrainian crossing easier.

It cuts off water to Crimea.

It will flood thousands of people downstream.

Time will tell, I guess. I'm not sure who benefits from this. Russia claims it was a UKR attack. If so, they should be able to produce some evidence of it but I'm not holding my breath. My money is on a false flag operation until proven otherwise.

Was reports earlier today of Ukrainian boats actively attacking some of the islands south of Kherson. Russian milbloggers were saying this.

I wouldn’t see Ukraine blowing the dam if troops were were in the low lands. I could see Russia blowing it if they thought a crossing of the river was happening.

Question. Where does the branch to feed Crimea come? Before or after the dam?

Right behind the dam

You can see it here. It runs south from the dam

The Crimean canal connects basically at the damn on the reservoir side so it definitely impacts the water to Crimea. The other major source of water for Crimea is the Kerch Strait Bridge...

Just saw some drone footage of the supposed breach
If it's fake that's pretty impressive. Very clear and up close 4k

All of the loss of life and property and ecological destruction this will cause is a small price to pay to bring freedom and democracy and LGBTQI+ rights to Russia.

Just another conflict of men being killed over rubble and money laundering and politics - sad to see. Biden's probably burning that midnight oil trying to fix it though

There was mention of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. I know it has been in cold shutdown for months, does anyone know how much if any water circulation is needed after this long of a time? I think it only takes a day or two to cool significantly.

I can imagine scenarios where either side blows up the dam, but I can also see it being an accident. The water in the reservoir has been far, far higher than normal, because the dam has not been managed properly.

In any case, the flood maps we had from the fall are completely inadequate now. Damage will be much greater, because the water level behind the dam has been much higher.

There's going to be a 20-foot high wave washing downstream. This is going to cause incredible damage to many places on both sides of the river.

Looks like the flooding from the blown dam will disrupt a lot of dug in Russian defensive positions

A 20 ft wall of water
Will destroy anything in its way. This could be a massive issue in this conflict.

It is going to be fascinating to see how the western media spins this so that it was the Putinists that blew the dam despite it very straightforwardly benefitting only Ukraine. Of course no one can admit that Ukraine - with the tacit support or even at the direction of its western advisors - ordered the dam be destroyed because it is unambiguously a crime against humanity.
