I think I’m going to call bullshite here. I think it’s fairly easy and convenient for Biden to blame a nameless group for the pipeline when the man all but said he would take it out on tv like the idiot he is. We did it or the Russians did it themselves to point the finger but this is just another way of having plausible deniability. I would put my money on the U.S. being the culprit though. Like Citizen said, guys that are certified to dive that deep aren’t plentiful in number and even less that can do it and that have the knowledge to take something like that out.

JDAM-ER in order to achieve that distance you would have to release the bomb at altitude since it has no self propulsion and is a glide bomb.

Since this is the case, is there more concern that a glide bomb like this could be shot down?

I would like to congratulate the Russian MoD on reaching 153 claimed destroyed M-777. This is the full amount of confirmed delivered M-777 according to Oryx list.
According to RU MoD they have destroyed:
153 M-777 (100%)
50 HIMARS (250%)
8 M270or similar (61.5%)

Two possible explanations, which are not mutually exclusive:

- The Russian MoD is full of it.

- Ukrainian decoys are highly effective.

On the 2nd note, there's an AP article today about the Czech company making some of the best inflatable decoys:

LINK

quote:

PRAGUE — The war in Ukraine has created a surge in demand for weapons — and, apparently, also for inflatable fake armaments that can be deployed as decoys.
A Czech company, Inflatech, is producing more than 30 different inflatable military decoys including tanks, armored vehicles, aircraft and howitzers. It also offers decoy versions of U.S.-made HIMARS rocket systems, which were among the billions of dollars in Western military aid that has helped Ukraine’s war effort since Russia launched its invasion just over a year ago.

Inflatech Chief Executive Vojtech Fresser won’t say whether his decoys are used by Ukrainian forces battling Russian invaders, but he said Monday that his business was up by more than 30% last year. He expects double-digit growth for at least three to five more years.

These decoys can cost up to 100k, but that's a lot, lot less than a new HIMARS system.

he great thing about these kits are they will still hit their predetermined target in bad weather or with enemy GPS jamming.

What is its guidance system if not GPS?

GPS enhanced INS (Inertial Navigation System).

Program where it needs to go and the onboard computers do the continuous calculations to make it fly to the pre-programmed target. I guess the GPS is there as a back up for when there is good visibility and the enemy doesn't have GPS jamming capabilities.

Its a bifurcated (redundant) guidance system, uses GPS and and inertial guidance system. But, if it loses one system it can default to the other.

The Russians dont have much of an answer here. These are usually fired in two salvos, if they track down the first the second salvo hits home.

I assume the INS mentioned in the original post means this:

Wikipedia - Inertial navigation System

Essentially it uses motion detection units such as gyroscopes and accelerometers combined with altimeters and other such measuring devices that feed into an onboard computer to maintain target without external references.

Please correct me if wrong.

Edit: Boo third.

It's also important to know that JDAMs are simply guidance systems, not actual bombs (like I used to think when they were all the rage in Iraq and Afghanistan). They can be fitted to any "dumb bomb" ranging from 500 to 2000 lbs. Giving them the GBU (Guided Bomb Unit) designation once the JDAM is attached.

It’s only about 100 meters deep at the site of the rupture. While that’s deeper than recreational diving, it isn’t exclusive. If one was setting an explosive charge, divers may not even be needed.
