Now WSJ say it was Israel.
If so, I wonder if it’s even related to the war in Ukraine or if it’s something else. That headline makes it sound like it’s not (ETA: not related to Iran’s supply of weaponry to Russia).

Israel is not going to allow Iran to develop sophisticated drone technology.
The things they are making now are shite but they wont be given a chance to develop.
The end game is regime change though and Iran is on a knifes edge.

I went to a museum in St. Petersburg where there was a children’s exhibit that allowed children to practice assembling and disassembling Kalashnikov rifles. When I was there a school group was being lead by an instructor. It was something to see.

Feels like this war is gonna grind on for years as Ukraine wants to take Crimea back and Russia views that as "legit" Russian territory now.

How is it that drones are so stealthy? Wouldn’t Iran have a decent air defense system?
Oddly enough thats in the article
quote:
Israel carried out a drone strike targeting a defense compound in Iran, as the U.S. and Israel look for new ways to contain Tehran’s nuclear and military ambitions, according to U.S. officials and people familiar with the operation.
Iranian officials said that the country’s air defenses had fended off an attempted attack by three small quadcopters targeting a munitions factory in the city of Isfahan, right next to a site belonging to the Iran Space Research Center, which has been sanctioned by the U.S. for its work on Iran’s ballistic-missile program.
Iran said its air defenses brought down one of the drones while the two others exploded above the warehouse, causing minor damage to the roof.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called the blast a cowardly strike.

No, that's just silly Iranian spin.
From a Forbes article on the attack:
quote:
Israeli media outlets and journalists citing official sources within the country, however, reported that the strikes successfully targeted four different areas of a building linked to Iran’s missile program.

Do you think we would admit it?

That’s what I was thinking. The videos don’t show minor damage.

That had to do with their security chief getting killed.
From ISWs Iran update Jan 27 LINK
quote:
An armed individual shot and killed the security chief of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran and injured two guards on January 27. The gunman penetrated the embassy building and opened fire on personnel with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Iranian officials have since arrested the attacker and identified him as 53-year-old Yasin Hossein Zadeh.[1] Iranian media described the event as an “armed attack” and reported that Hossein Zadeh was motivated by “personal and family problems,” citing a dispute between embassy personnel and Hossein Zadeh’s wife in March or April 2022.[2] Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the incident a “terrorist attack” and accused Iranian officials of failing to take action against prior threats made against Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran.[3] The Azerbaijani Foreign Affairs Minister Jeyhun Bayramov announced the evacuation of the embassy on January 27.[4] President Ebrahim Raisi called for a comprehensive investigation into the attack, and Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani warned Iranian media outlets against circulating speculative reports of the attack.[5] Supreme National Security Council-affiliated Nour News separately published a tweet stating that the attack should not damage ties between Baku and Tehran.[6]

Which museum was this? That would have been neat to see. I went a to Russian history museum while is in St Pete and one of the people working there followed me through the whole place always just within sight of me. He never approached me or said anything, just observed. I got the impression they didn't see many Americans there since everything was in Russian. Can't remember the name but it was the with Lenin's office and the balcony from which he gave a famous speech. They did have one exhibit that had a large number Mosin Nagants. The way things are going, those will be in Ukraine soon.

O/T but this sentence reminded me of a conversation with a neighbor of mine when I was in Seal Beach, CA. Founding member of Black Sabbath who was actually crazier than Ozzie back in those days. On one of their tours of Germany then went to a stadium of a tour and the guide pointed to where Hitler gave speeches from. He returned with his friends in the wee hours of the following morning, and pried up the piece of slate where Hitler was said to have stood. He brought back home to give to his dad (who hated ALL Germans) who questioned why a fricking rock. When he explained where it came from, his dad was pleased beyond measure. HIs dad broke it up and "tiled" around a toilet. When he and his friends where having a "few" beers, they would always pee a little on "the ground that Hitler stood on" The amount of hate the those who were adults in WWII Britain is difficult to imagine towards ALL Germans, except by today's Ukrainians towards Russia.

Seeing this as well
Wonder if this develops into an actual war. Doesn’t seem a normal targeted strike of a singular target to prevent a specific advancement or attack. This is now multiple attacks in a 24 hr period
