More than likely just more evidence of Ivan's ineptitude. But, pissing off the Poles, no matter how, is not a good idea for the Russkies. Not to mention their continuing crude missile attacks on Ukrainian civilian assets.

Right, Article 4 is about consultation process. Attacked countries don't get to invoke article 5 on their own.

All NATO decisions are made by consensus, after discussion and consultation among member countries. Consultation between member states is therefore at the heart of NATO since Allies are able to exchange views and information, and discuss issues prior to reaching agreement and taking action.

Sorry Poland, my bad. You should already know that our missiles are as accurate as a drive by gangbanger shooting. - Sincerely, Vlad

Even if it's just a Russian accident, though, it's going to galvanize a lot more NATO military support to Ukraine. This is how Ukraine gets F-16s and ATACMS.

Fortunately, Article 5 is not an automatic thing. Poland has to invoke, which they probably wouldn't do because there is still reason to believe that this was accidental, and so there is no real reason (yet) to believe Russia is expanding the war to NATO.

I would liken this to a dog bite situation. One bite is excused. Two bites and the dog should be put down.

No. Reportedly a grain drier or silo.

Oh, boy. My spidey-senses are tingling on the question of whether it was accidental or not.

Accident then. They get one more chance unless they obviously hit a pig pen or something like that.

Remember the Russian sub that had snuck out and could trigger nuclear war with it's nuclear torpedo's???

Yea, Russia

Still no word on Putin's "doomsday submarine" that was postured as a threat that could kill us all, solely for maximum intimidation effect.

There has been word - From 4 days ago

Russia’s test of a nuclear-powered torpedo capable of carrying an atomic warhead 100 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb failed after suffering technical difficulties, US intelligence officials believe.

The Poseidon torpedo, which President Putin unveiled in 2018 as an “innovative new weapon”, was due to have been tested from the 30,000-ton Russian submarine Belgorod, in the Arctic.

However, the Belgorod, which at 178 metres is the longest submarine in the world, has returned to port at Severomorsk, the Russian Northern Fleet base, without any evidence of the Poseidon test having taken place.

The Russian navy has made a possible failed attempt to test one of its new nuclear-powered “apocalypse” Poseidon torpedoes designed to trigger radioactive tsunamis from hundreds of miles away, according to US observers.

The apparently botched exercise took place in the Arctic Sea in recent weeks and involved Russia’s behemoth Belgorod nuclear submarine, a senior US official told CNN.

Over the past week, Belgorod and other Russian ships were spotted leaving the testing area without carrying out a test, suggesting that the Kremlin’s navy had run into some technical issues that caused it to pull the plug on the torpedo launch.

Maybe. I think we have to give them at least one more chance. But a grain silo is not exactly out of character for a Russian attack.

Edit: Now that I think of it, no matter where the missile lands, it would be in character for a country that has bombed targets ranging from schools to hospitals to apartment complexes to whatever.

The Russians' scorched Earth policy has expired all benefit of the doubt at this point. Literally, everything is a potential target.

Lets hope that's true.

This would basically cover most of Ukraine's needs for 2023. The White House wants to pass it in a lame-duck session before the new Congress is sworn in in January.

Prigozhin falls in line and changes his story about the murdered POW.

quote:

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and head of the Wagner Group, has claimed that Yevgeny Nuzhin, a member of the Wagner Group, who was executed on camera, could have been "recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and imprisoned for 27 years beforehand in order to infiltrate the Wagner Group and create the conditions for his execution", before being killed by the US secret services.

quote:

He noted that the video contains no cursing in Russian, which is "typical of such videos involving Russians", and the colour of the brick on which Nuzhin's head was lying did not match any brick used in the Russian Federation. He also claimed that the camouflage of the uniforms worn by the people in the video is the same colour as a design by an American company.

Prigozhin added that after being questioned, no Wagner Group member had "proved that they had kidnapped Nuzhin or participated in his execution", although the fighters are distinguished by their "discipline and strict adherence to international norms".

We can't go to war with them yet. They need to screw up one more time and it has to be obvious.

NSC, DOD still assessing reports of an explosion in Poland today, but US official tells me it was likely caused by a missile strike or errant missile, not remnants of a missile Ukrainian armed forces shot down.
