From @Tendar:

quote:
Ukrainian forces are nearing Svatove. The first battles are reported East of Nezhuryne (visual confirmation) and apparently Kovalivka has been liberated. The Russian positions which are getting hammered are less than 5km away from the City perimeter.

ANA had been trained to call in US air support. No air support was to be had.

Not to derail but where are you getting this information?

Biden delayed the withdraw from Trumps date but still ignored signs of plan failure. Both own this.

The Trump administration in February 2020 negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government, freed 5,000 imprisoned Taliban soldiers and set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal. And the Trump administration kept to the pact, reducing U.S. troop levels from about 13,000 to 2,500, even though the Taliban continued to attack Afghan government forces and welcomed al-Qaeda terrorists into the Taliban leadership.
quote:
Biden delayed the May 1 withdrawal date he inherited. But ultimately his administration pushed ahead with a plan to withdraw by Aug. 31, despite obvious signs that the Taliban wasn’t complying with the agreement and had a stated goal to create an “Islamic government” in Afghanistan after the U.S. left, even if it meant it had to “continue our war to achieve our goal.”
quote:
April 18 — In a released statement, Trump criticizes Biden’s Sept. 11 withdrawal deadline saying, “we can and should get out earlier.” He concludes, “Getting out of Afghanistan is a wonderful and positive thing to do. I planned to withdraw on May 1st, and we should keep as close to that schedule as possible.”

Unbelievable.
Russia has stolen Kherson's fire trucks, ambulances, and now city buses. That's understandable, in a sense.
But statues? Stealing the remains of Grigory Potemkin from the church where he was buried?
And our resident troll here still pretends that Russia will hold Kherson.

The Trump plan was to be out before "fighting season" began. The Biden delay was to wait for "fighting season" to already happening.
It seems to me that leaving Bagram early was not a good idea.

Different type of warfare being waged by Russia and in Afghanistan. This will not go well

So, in contrast to my earlier post from @Tendar showing Ukrainian forces closing in on Svatove, we have Rybar claiming that Russia is pushing Ukraine back.

It looks like the maps are showing two different points of combat. The Ukrainian map shows the advance toward Svatove, and the Russian map shows the Russians pushing south of there, toward Torske and Makivka. Both could be true.
The Russian map claim is less likely because of the size of the claimed advance. It seems there would be more reporting if there was an offensive spanning that much territory.

That's true. And I do think that there's value to the idea that Ukraine is pushing very hard on Svatove and is content to hold the line against Kreminna.

Execution and failure belongs to Biden. Biden had 8 years as VP and another 30+ as a Senator. The only thing that man is good is graft.

There was really nothing different that could be done overall. There was only a skeleton crew left so stabilizing the situation would have required sending 20k troops back into the country for up to 2 years. There was no political will for that and it would have immediately triggered Taliban attacks.
With the ANA eating scraps, all of the US equipment was as good as gone. The only thing that should have been done differently is rushing the translator visas from day 1 in office (Trump had largely abandoned them) and forbidding travel to Afghanistan over the Summer.
Revisionist history is strong.

Our favorite Russian state TV talking head takes up the satanism talking point and gets a little heated. Poor guy hope he doesn't stroke out.
