Think this through. Ukraine is so important to Russia that it would risk using a tactical nuke on territory it would also like to annex and use as a buffer region. Given the response from the West, you take this threat so seriously that the Ukrainians self-determination is secondary to Russian security. Indeed, their self-determination is, by definition, secondary to even the ethnic Russian self-determination in the Donbass, according to your pained logic. And you seem fine with Ukrainian capitulation, and indeed, think that what has occurred on the battlefield since April supports that when it doesn't.

For what its worth, that situation you described, Party A threatening a greater pain on Party B than on Party C to show that Party A is excessively interested in Party B and thus Party C should back down is exactly the Soviet and Russian escalation strategy Thomas Schelling describes in The Strategy of Conflict, which you desperately need to read, because at this point, you've argued your points so poorly that you've made the case that the matter of nuclear war is a certainty, and the only question is time. From that viewpoint, what should be done is obvious, which is a point that SFP has made repeatedly to deaf ears.

Let's extend this argument to any former Soviet bloc country where there is a Russian ethnic minority. Even those places where successive Russian polities instituted a Russification program could be up for grabs. The sky is limitless!

Oh really? Did I not say the war would severely escalate in October for months? Last I checked to start this month Ukraine blew up the bridge to supplying Crimea and Russia launched 80 missiles. You LARPers just thought September and August was proof they were going to lose. It’s Fall. If they’re going to push, that’s the season to do it. Winter is going to be such a different story.
