A 63-year-old Russian pensioner with cerebral ischemia and second-degree diabetes was placed under partial mobilisation in the Volgograd region according to a report on the Baza Telegram channel.
Until reaching retirement age, Alexander Ermolaev is a reserve lieutenant colonel from Krasnoslobodsk. He previously served in the military as a deputy unit commander for logistics. He was also the deputy director of a plant for the elimination of chemical weapons.
According to the portal, at 6am on the morning of September 22, the head of the Sredneakhtubinsky district handed a summons to the man. He was subsequently taken to Zelenyi Island to undergo a medical examination.
As a result of the screening, more than nine people were declared unfit for service and sent home. However, the doctor told Yermolaev that with his ischemia and second-degree diabetes “he can go to the front”. The reserve lieutenant colonel was sent directly to the Prudboy firing range in the settlement of Novyi Rogachik where he is waiting for two weeks of training, after which he will be deployed.
When asked about this incident, the head of the Sredneakhtubinsky district who served Alexander with the summons pointed out that the administration only ‘assists the military registration and enlistment office, and it is up to the military to decide who to draft or not’, as reported by gazeta.ru.
It is not clear why the military registration and enlistment office decided to draft 63-year-old Yermolaev. According to official explanations of the Defence Ministry, lieutenant colonels up to 55 years old and colonels up to 60 years old are subject to partial mobilisation.
Only high-ranking officers starting from major-general or rear admiral and above are subject to drafting until they are 65. Earlier it was reported that in the Irkutsk region, citizens unfit for the army due to bad health were also mobilised.

Just wanted to point out that we are on page 1776. God bless America and the democratic republic that we live in.
Could not agree more. As much as we fuss each other, or feel we are so different and there is no way we can ever mesh, we are far more alike than different. And damn, if we are not all lucky and blessed to be in this country versus others.

Where are they going to find enough Mosin Nagants for all these conscripts?

Probably from the same warehouses that they keep the T34s in.

Well that is one way to increase voter turnout.
Man that is just sad. How can anyone defend this farce?

In Russia's Yuzhno-Kurilsk, drunken mobilised would-be soldiers are already fighting each other. Morale through the roof.

A breathtaking article in the NY Times: LINK. It's behind a paywall, but you can read it if you sign up for a free account.
It's crazy because we've heard whispers in the last several days that Putin is personally ordering commanders at Lyman, which would explain why he is risking the capture of entire units to try to defend a fundamentally indefensible position there.
I wasn't sure that I believed it, because that kind of thing is often PsyOps, but this article gives confirmation of it from US officials. Some key exerpts:
US intelligence officials must truly have info that the Russian hold on Kherson is hanging by a mere thread. The American intelligence community has done so much in this war to rebuild its reputation; they haven't yet been wrong on Ukraine.
Some key exerpts:
quote:
President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has thrust himself more directly into strategic planning for the war in Ukraine in recent weeks, American officials said, including rejecting requests from his commanders on the ground that they be allowed to retreat from the vital southern city of Kherson.
A withdrawal from Kherson would allow the Russian military to pull back across the Dnipro River in an orderly way, preserving its equipment and saving the lives of soldiers.
But such a retreat would be another humiliating public acknowledgment of Mr. Putin’s failure in the war, and would hand a second major victory to Ukraine in one month. Kherson was the first major city to fall to the Russians in the initial invasion, and remains the only regional capital under Moscow’s control. Retaking it would be a major accomplishment for President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.
quote:
But American officials briefed on highly sensitive intelligence said that behind the scenes Mr. Putin is taking on an even deeper role in the war, including telling commanders that strategic decisions in the field are his to make. Although Mr. Putin has accepted some recommendations from military commanders, including the mobilization of civilians, his involvement has created tensions, American officials said.
The officials said that Mr. Putin’s rejection of a military pullback from Kherson has also led to a decrease in morale among Russian troops who have been mostly cut off from their supply lines, and who appear to believe they could be left stranded against Ukrainian forces.
quote:
Pulling back past the Dnipro River would likely allow Russian commanders to hold the line in the south with fewer troops. That would give them more latitude to redeploy forces from Kherson to other areas, either pushing back against the Kharkiv counteroffensive in the northeast, solidifying defensive lines in the eastern Donbas region or opening up a new front in the south.
But Mr. Putin has told commanders he will set the strategy.
quote:
With dissent rising in Russia, and military-age men attempting to flee the country to avoid the call-up, U.S. officials say Mr. Putin believes another Ukrainian victory would further erode the popularity of the war, something he cannot risk.
quote:
In addition to blocking a retreat from Kherson, Mr. Putin has raised doubts about Russian efforts to consolidate their position in the northeast near the Oskil River, which the Ukrainian counteroffensive reached this month. Mr. Putin, an American official said, has opposed pulling back there as well, because he is reluctant to hand anything to Mr. Zelensky that looks like a win.
Even as Mr. Putin demands a strategy of no further retreats, American officials said Russian officers themselves are divided on how to respond to the Ukrainian counteroffensives. Some officers believe they should push back hard on Mr. Putin’s directives before the Ukrainians break through their current lines. Others believe they can follow through on Mr. Putin’s directives.
US intelligence officials must truly have info that the Russian hold on Kherson is hanging by a mere thread. The American intelligence community has done so much in this war to rebuild its reputation; they haven't yet been wrong on Ukraine.

They also get as much from Ukraine's agents in Russia as well as from the Finnish.

Well, they overestimated Russian capabilities a bit & underestimated Ukranian will & ability to defend itself. But it's probably hard to always judge a people's will & determination to fight.
Not 1.000 , but US Intel has been excellent.

Russia tried to conquer Ukraine. But they failed. Turns out their army is a third rate shell with shoddy equipment and poorly motivated conscripts. And they're led by political appointees rather than skilled officers.
The Ukrainians -- supported and armed by a coalition of basically every developed nation on earth -- have fought fiercely to protect their sovereignty. They have begun methodically counter attacking and rolling the Russian army back.
Meanwhile, in Moscow, Putin has sacked many of his top generals and begun directing troops from his bunker. He also called up 300,000 reserves to replace his losses. But he doesn't have the infrastructure to train and equip these troops. Or to support them at the front.
So it's just a desperate move to buy him some time while he figures out how to get out of this mess he created. It won't affect the ultimate outcome. But many more thousands of soldiers and civilians will die because of it.
That's your 2 minute version. Stop by more often.
