I think the whole Russian system is in disarray and Putin is losing control, especially of the military. He’s a control freak, as are most dictators, and he can’t manage both internal problems and this war in Ukraine.

I only say that because they never really mounted an offensive on Kharkiv in the first place. At least not a substantial one. That tells me that the Russians don’t think it’s a very important strategically.

I wonder where those more defensible positions actually are, back in Russia?

The Kharkiv offense is impressive for sure. But how badly is Russia trying to defend it? I mean let’s be honest, Russia could’ve taken Kharkiv in the 1st week of the war I when they had the initiative if they really wanted it. I’d suspect Russia is focusing its defenses elsewhere.

Well then that was a stupid decision. All of the food, fuel, ammo, and arse wipe that the Russian army was using in the Donbas came from Bologrod through Vovychansk and the through Kupyansk before going on to either Izyum, Luhansk, or Donetsk. Now that supply line has been cut. Even worse the Russians did not take time to destroy their supply dumps or to even bother tearing up the track. Ukraine was still short on ammo for its Soviet era artillery and the Kherson offensive is chewing through artillery shells like crazy. One of sauce(s) in Ukraine has been given the assignment of organizing the artillery shells in the Kupyansk rail yard and loading them on trains heading to the Kherson front where the troops cannot wait to try out the Iranian made shells on the Russians. My sauce also said that civilians are pouring into the rail yard and volunteering to help load the trains. The Russians could not get the locals to work but now men of all ages are coming to help. My sauce said it is a good thing that the Russians left behind over a lot of the Russian version of MREs. My sauce estimates that the number of Russian MREs could very easily be 2 million or more which makes feeding the liberated population a lot easier.

After they were routed in northern Ukraine, Putin changed his focus to seizing all of the Donbas and a land corridor to Crimea. Darn near succeeded, too.

I think his intention was to stop the war after all of the Donestk Oblast was taken. That’s why he gave the order to take it by 9/15.

Things have got to be heating up around him with all these failures in Ukraine. I hope he doesn’t do something rash as a reaction.

Is Putin in Kyiv? Oh, that’s right, the capital only has strategic importance if it’s Russia’s.

I think this might be mostly cope. They were in battalion fighting positions they had been digging and reinforcing for months as soldiers you don't give that up easily.

Because the situation is so kinetic I don't know where they are going to end up so I can't judge whether the terrain is more defensible. It would have to be some damn choice terrain to give up trench and bunker complexes.

It could also be they are just consolidating but unless the units were significantly degraded they are going to be increasing their target density which is not ideal. When the steel rain comes I don't want to be packed in cheek to cheek so a single shell takes out a platoon. Every unit has a snakebit fricker, while he never gets hit they draw fire like shite draws bottle flies. You always want them at least two killing radius of the enemies largest shells away at all times. They seem to pull a LOT of rear guard. The more room to space them out the better.

I was just wondering, does your family get comped on vacations to luxurious places like Gatlinburg that you telemarket for? Is that part of the commissions system for your sweet gig?

Like these?

The Russian side of the international border is the defensive position for them. The positions already have already anti-tank ditches, a large berm to hide behind, gates on the border crossings, and some of the border even has fences to stop the Ukrainians from crossing. That is where I think they should head.

Yeah they did and got their arse handed to them. They just went around.

Kharkov is like a city state, they identify Ukrainian but their loyalty is to the city. The Russians tried it because its so close to the 91 border but got whipped badly in the suburbs, never got close to the city.

After all of this is over the Ukrainians should get down on their knees and kiss every member of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade’s feet. It seems like they have been the tip of the spear for a lot of Ukraine’s biggest battles. I’m sure those guys are most likely exhausted and have taken heavy casualties but you probably couldn’t pull them away from the fight for anything right now.

Cope from who? There was zero fighting in Izyum. They literally just left.

My buddy's tank battalion is part of the 93rd mechanized brigade. The brigade has received a lot of reinforcements from the reserves. They created a whole new tank battalion and put my buddy in charge of it back in June. When I saw him last month he was pissed that he had been in the rear training the new guys and not on the front fighting for 2 months. Of course, he and the others understood what they were doing and were damn happy they had all these new (well new to them) to put the reservists in. They were just itching to be released.

From whoever was suggesting their movement was in significant part due to the desire to move to more defensible positions. You don't just retreat from well-prepped tunnel and bunker complexes without something coming at you that you seriously don't like.

You are suggesting a strategic retreat, you take your equipment with you. Because wherever you turnaround you are going to need that.
