Thanks for the FOBs you abandoned Vlad, our Kurd friends are pleased.

Russians have previously showed they aren’t scared of losing battalions while crossing bridges. They’ll just throw some more cannon fodder at the problem and accept the losses instead of changing tack.
Then they’ll deny that they lost men at the bridge.
The solution has to be to make the bridge unusable.

So speaking of Finland and Sweden, any of the right wing folks in this thread want to explain why they should not be allowed to join NATO?
What is your reasoning and rationale?
How odd. Never got a response to this...

Old school from 50 years ago Jackson State Hospital sort of care, chained to a wall, washed with a firehose and slopped like a hog for meals

No one has denied the Astan debacle, but anyone thinking that Russia is the master of anything other than total destruction of physical places which are defenseless is clueless.

In their world, women are for babies and men are for pleasure. How is that not widespread gheyness?

all too predictable world views have been correct.

those of you who have access to Twitter can view this video. Cars are seen driving around the holes but I wonder about heavy vehicles. Amazing precision. Close ups of the holes - snapped/bent rebar & cables, etc.
Looking at the photos it looks like a pretty standard prestressed concrete beam bridge. From a combat engineer's perspective, they are resilient frickers. Compare that to a cable suspension bridge like the Golden Gate which is delicate in comparison. Just cut one or two of the suspension cables from the anchorage and it will end up in the bay.
To render a concrete beam bridge useless you are going to have to severely damage two or more of the (in this case four) longitudinal girders in the same span or one of the piers. It appears from the pictures and video I have seen the only damage is to the deck slab. I am not a degreed engineer and don't remember working up charges for a prestressed concrete beam bridge and don't have access to my FM 5-34 but the damage doesn't look fatal to me, but I would like to see more pictures from below.
If anyone cares the correct charge to cut the longitudinal concrete beams is called a hayrick which the US Army does NOT have in inventory. You would likely have to use a concrete stripping charge first. We would just have to brute force it since we don't have the correct charge available.
One thing to note also is based on the pictures you would only have to drop/destroy a single span to make the bridge unusable since the longest AVLB Russia has is 18m and from the pictures all the spans look longer than that.
For illustration, this is one of the pictures from below and would not IMHO be an issue even for armor especially since there is a lot of roadways father to the right where the deck slab is untouched between two girders that are not near damage. Had the rocket been a few feet to the left 3/4 of the width of that span would have been highly suspect for heavy traffic but would have left the 1/4 of it on the right hand side likely fine.
Rockets aren't a good way to destroy this type of bridge or at least the type that hit it isn't.

It seems like this is also a message that they can accurately hit anything crossing this bridge, thus making it uncrossable
Posted on 7/20/22 at 9:29 am to Obtuse1
Doesn’t have to destroy the bridge. They just have to damage it enough to weaken it to the point where the amount of heavy equipment has to be spaced out and then Russia can’t keep its troops supplied. Plus, the Russian probably have not learned from history and they will let supplies and reinforcements build up on the backside of the bridge and then Ukraine can launch artillery and HIMARs attacks and destroy a lot of Russian stuff and troops as they wait to cross the bridge.

By the way, cars are still driving on the bridge.
But they are now targets when the Ukrainians want to practice.

The supports at the bottom of the pic look absolutely flimsy compared to the rest of the bridge. Maybe they were the target?

Destroy the deck and leave the beams would make it not usable I would guess.

Correct. Ppl are forgetting that military equipment is much heavier than regular cars and trucks. Plus if there are potholes then tracks will tear up the surrounding deck quick, fast, and in a hurry.

I would also assume so. It does appear that a second or third strike is needed. I saw reports last night of a second strike but these pics were all released after the first strike. If the reports were correct, updated photos should tell more.
