Doofuss, Russia knows it would get its behind handed to it if it attacks a NATO country. LSUPILOT007 knows this.

I don’t know if they fell for it, you would know better than me though. I assume special interest saw an opportunity to make a lot of money, and exploited the political process.
Germany is screwed though because cheap Russian gas makes their exports affordable.

You can do better than that.

Russia as a malign actor was going to use energy blackmail sooner or later. You get our energy, you have to give concessions or we'll cut it off.
I don’t understand how they thought they could have it both ways.
This was predictable, as Trump pointed out.

He says they’re figuring out what hardware they would need from NATO, to accomplish that mission.

If you want us to retake the south, we need this from you.

You’re for peace talks so long as Russia agrees to completely withdraw from Ukraine and pay the damage they caused. Other than that, I think the thread is almost completely opposed to them and would prefer more war over Ukraine conceding territory.
I think most in this thread are incredibly doubtful that Russia would actually honor any peace agreement more so than against it. I mean they are literally in direct violation of the last accord they made with Ukraine within 30 years so why would they honor a new agreement?

You know that scene was not written in the script and the two guys were not actors or stand ins?

Fair enough, but what is your solution here?
Magic wand and it works or realistic? Magic wand? Probably a stable DMZ similar to Korea. Realistically, I'm not sure but the only way I see it standing is if what Ukraine has left afterwards joins NATO.
If that doesn't happen then I don't think Russia would honor it once they got their troops back to a sufficient level and the West has already shown their hand in terms of sanctions.
But I don't have a good answer for this because even if Ukraine wins there isn't much stopping Russia without a NATO type arrangement.
What's your solution?

Because they are, yet still, naive and think themselves intellectually superior to their savior and defender for 75+ years.
Let’s say this does end with the dismantling of Russia, ideally from within after massive military and economic losses and avoidance of global conflict, we should then make clear we will not do this again. We will train, we will sell weapons of war to arm our European Allies, we will honor NATO as an equal partner and not it’s benefactor. We should foster Ukrainian integration in NATO, but also foster an eastern coalition that we will work closely with in training and western weapon system conversion. The Eastern Europeans aren’t the problem, it’s the pacifism, naivety, and stupidity of the Western Europeans that are the problem. We should encourage the eastern bloc accordingly.
Good time to remind we agreed to defend Ukraine after convincing them to give up their nukes and that a weakened Russia is in our long term strategic interest in the face of a quickly rising China. At least holding our word has so far not meant the loss of a single American soldier.

An East Ukraine and a West Ukraine with the Dnieper River / Reservoir(s) as the divide.
Elections would be held in East Ukraine (re: Russia would install a puppet).
They become the “buffer” state.
The thespian will point out his concerns over “his people” still in “the East.” Hunter and Jim become housing contractors, and refugees flood in. The “West” pours even more money into West Ukraine and the laundromat re-opens. The BIG GUY gets his 10%.
Otherwise, Ukraine will be taken over totally by Russia at some point.
I say go with the East / West Ukraine approach as I am of the opinion that Russia doesn’t want to be an “occupier.”
Just my .02.

quote:Yeah that sounds good.
You’re for peace talks so long as Russia agrees to completely withdraw from Ukraine and pay the damage they caused.
quote:Ukraine settling for anything less than that would be bending the knee to Putin like a coward. frick that, frick him, and frick you for expecting other people to be pussies so you don't have a nervous breakdown about WW3.
Other than that, I think the thread is almost completely opposed to them and would prefer more war over Ukraine conceding territory.
quote:JFC man, stop being a bitch. All I'm hearing from you is a million ways to justify letting psychos rule the world because you're too scared to do the right thing when the time comes.
Yeah, but Ukraine is my neighbor. How much of my neighbor’s property should I personally put up with another neighbor taking from him when that psychopath has got a bunch of kids that are known to be potential mass shooters and have biological weapons if we intervene and the cops are willing to do nothing about it? That’s the equivalence I’m seeing here. There’s lots of downsides to us directly intervening.
quote:So Wilson was a bitch too, so what? How do you know Nazis/Hitler weren't inevitable regardless? You don't. How do you know they didn't bleed them dry and humiliate them enough the first go round? You don't.
Oh please. A) Only you are calling me a coward, and B) This is the exact same shite people were told at the end of the First World War when people like (and I hate giving this mother fricker any credit) Woodrow Wilson warned Britain and France that too cruel of measures against Germany would make a Second Great War inevitable, but they said frick it, you’re a pussy, and we’re going to bleed them dry and humiliate them as fully as possible for this. For the first and only time in his life, Wilson was right.
quote:I'm not demanding the harshest penalties. I only demand what's right in this case. And that is full Russian military withdrawal and a legit effort to rebuild. If that's "harsh" to you or the Russians, frick you and them.
Yes, Putin is the main warmonger here, but here’s also another fact: Putin in all likelihood will be dead within ten years. Russia will live on though. And you demanding the harshest penalties may not backfire in the immediate, but they likely will in the long term.
Don't be a dick and don't be a pussy. How hard is that?
quote:I really don't give two shits what Jordan Peterson has to say, and you allowing him to speak for you tells me just how much of a bitch you are. Don't let other people lead you around. Man up.
Jordan Peterson speaks for me here.

Please find where I said I advocate we bomb Moscow. I said please let Putin be dumb enough to attack Lithuania, a NATO member, because that means we all come to their defense and that would be the end of Putin and any semblance of power that Russia thinks it has. Being a warmonger and speaking cold facts are two different things. I spoke facts when I said we would roll to Putin’s doorstep and there wouldn’t be a damn thing his military could do about it and that is absolute fact. Maybe check your facts before you try to put words in other people’s mouths. Nobody wants outright war but if he is unhinged enough to attack a NATO country then he would get what he deserves for his idiocy. Hopefully the Russian people would do the job for us before we had to ever kill Russians inside Russia by giving Vlad the Mussolini treatment. You’re the type that would let him run through country after country killing civilians and blowing cities to the ground and still advocate that we not intervene. You’re a pussy plain and simple. Go back and hide under your mommy’s dress.
