Putin Says Russia "Has Not Yet Seriously Started Anything" In Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Federation has not yet taken serious action in the war against Ukraine, but also does not refuse peace negotiations. This was reported by the Russian agency Interfax on Thursday, July 7.
"Everyone should know that we, by and large, have not yet started anything in earnest. At the same time, we do not refuse peace negotiations either. But those who refuse should know that the further, the more difficult it will be for them to negotiate with us," the Russian president said.
Putin also said that the West wants to fight with Russia until the last Ukrainian, and called Russian aggression a tragedy of the Ukrainian people.

That is the entire point. These reserves in today's world only are applied to when production is lost in the Gulf of Mexico from hurricanes. It's the same two grades supplied by refineries with the processes dialed in specifically for these two grades. It really isn't about replacing supplies of disrupted imports any longer because we don't import these grades to where it can be refined out of SPR.
Crude oil is not some monolithic commodity. The futures markets are only sets of specifications which various crude oil sources are indexed to.

I’m not an expert in oil, dude

You never give the Chinese our special reserves under literally any circumstances.
Do you understand why several posters have tried to explain to you that oil is a fungible commodity? Do you even know what that means?
Are you ignoring the people trying to explain to you that there are different grades and types of oil, and that a given refinery can't just use whatever? What do you think banning the export of SPR oil would achieve?

No. And no.

Just my opinion but a lot has changed since the 1970's in refining and infrastructure to transport crude oil so here is my recommendation.
Sell the SPR storage sites to private entities. Let these private entities store crude oil in grades which the market demands here in the USA. Allow other storage locations say East Coast, West Coast, and Midwest and make regional hubs instead of lumping all the storage caverns within 5 hr drive between the two farthest away

You are a worthless crackhead in this thread. Can you go play somewhere else?

Selling to willing buyer, who then sells to a willing buyer.
Does this replace crude oil purchased from Russia?

But that's missing the point. He's not talking to the West. He's talking to the ones he really needs to negotiate with - the Russian population.

You are stuck on the word "crude oil" You want to sell it to those who would have to stop buying from production coming up the pipeline from the Gulf of Mexico, and have those production sites lose money? I get it now

it’s our strategic reserve

I have to agree with OLM, the SPR is not a political tool. It should be full and let for wartime use, or when there is a strategic need. Using it for political gain when it won't move the needle on gasoline & diesel prices is just f---ing stupid. Then again, it is the Biden administration.

quote:I think we pretty much all agree on that. It's OML's sky screaming and silly objections to some of the oil ending up in China that doesn't make any sense.

OML makes your average Tiktok lib blush at his ability to melt over something he literally has no idea about.

This thread has lost its luster. Having said that there is a need for a crude oil refining grades in the US thread right? Is Ukraine losing?
I think we are a little in the weeds.

You’re right, this thread is off track. Let me help for the silent scrolling crowd:
***CURRENT NO-bullshite SUMMARY AS OF 7/7/2022***
-Ukraine use of American HIMARS systems has increased, targeting strategic Russian assets such as ammo depots
-Russia announced “operational pause” likely due to (possibly temporary) shortages of ammo and equipment; the longer term implications of this are largely unknown and prone to excessive speculation
-Belarus continues more saber rattling
-Putin says he’s okay with Finland joining NATO, then says he isn’t, then spazzes out and retreats to his dacha to bathe in deer blood
-Western nations continuing to give more lethal aid to Ukraine, with more going towards offensive weapons than before
-Britain has begun training Ukrainian troops in mainland UK
