Russia spent time fortifying this front digging tanks to essentially pillboxes. My understanding is that ground action is at night. Thus, very slow and gradual but advances are made.

For once, I will say I somewhat agree. Lot left to be learned, but the comparison to Ferdinand and the rest of the events of the 1910s that seem to be happening in the last 2-3 years is where my mind went.

Global pandemic - no comment, just noting the occurrence
European conflict
Major global leader assassinated
Mass amount of military and economic alliances, some could be considered entangling
Potential for Russian Revolution if their populace has enough of the losses in Ukraine and/or potential of Putin’s death due to illness which creates a power vacuum.

One major thing missing from this timeline…

Not losing sleep yet, but history certainly appears to be repeating itself in a very odd way.

bipartisan support for Ukraine and first support I've seen for longer range MLRS rounds. Comments were made during their visit to Ukraine.

Ukraine should be armed with long-range weapons, US senators say

Ukraine could use guerrilla warfare and U.S.-made weapons to claw back territories under Russian occupation, U.S. senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told Reuters during their Kyiv visit on July 7.

Blumenthal said he supports providing Ukraine with longer-range ammunition for HIMARS rocket artillery, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and anti-air defense systems – on the condition that Kyiv won’t use these weapons to strike at Russian sovereign territory.

Graham stressed the urgency for further weapon shipments to Ukraine, as the fighting in Donbas is dragging on.

I’m no fan of Lindsey Graham, never have been, but it does appear that he sees the utility of putting the Russian army back into Russian territory. We agree on that.

He acts like his ancestry is of boys stuffed into trash cans by other boys from 1st through 12th grade. All of the ones like that who instead hung close to teachers to avoid this all turned out to be ghey

i appreciate how youve done nothing but throw shite at other people being "pro war" or happy that the war is going on and that they are hoping it continues while you throw posts like this out all the time

I have to be careful here but if you're looking for natural-born partisans, the Roma would be hard to beat. Especially if they were given first dibs on any Russian vehicles they found. Dozens would appear for sale in Serbia in three days.

If there were any Russian vehicles left, a platoon of Pikies inserted behind the line would cure that. The hell with the Geneva Convention.

Yes. Bipartisan leadership for what needs to be done. Now.

That's the hard part for everyone. Possibly start by vetting HIMAR operators for training along lines of those that can control their anger and know what a mistake it would be to fire one of these onto Russian territory. Plenty of fat Russian targets within Ukrainian soverign territory and Putin is busy delivering more.

My experiences with them in the USA, great at bribery and theft, small but effective scale. I wonder if they drive red pickups with high sided pull behind 16 foot trailers in Ukraine.

Some of the Roma/Gypsies in Bulgaria are involved in some shady crap. They would steal anything that isn't tied down. Resell it at open air markets. Some rough neighborhoods there. Drug trade, etc. I guess you could say its similar to inner city neighborhoods in the US.

I guess the Ukrainians have found a counter to all of the Russian thiefs.

I would venture a guess and say (hope) that targets are approved at a high level maybe even including non-Ukrainian approval.

They are claiming Crimea as Russian territory. Should attacking it be a red line & another appeasement to Russia? Any new annexed " Russian " territory be off limits?

Then like magic, China imports less oil from Russia since its trading subsidiary in Houston succeeded in its bid.

I see the upside of the sale to this entity. That being said, a ship's destination with crude oil owned by a trading company often changes while at sea as the cargo is sold to someone else.

Competent commanders refine their tactics to ensure victory. Ideally you want to present the enemy with not just a solvable problem but an unsolvable dilemma.

Coming back to the present war, certainly the Russians could just mass troops and tanks and plow through in a rapid, conventional assault. That would, however, entail a fair, or near-fair, fight against an entrenched enemy in the Donbass.

Bluntly, this is the kind of fight the Ukrainian military would want to have - they could sit in their trenches and fend off the attack with infantry weapons all day long, with some chance of actual success.

A short discussion of Russian tactics.
