One media report let it slip that the initial invasion was only like 30% of forces. So probably a blitz krieg to get as many bridges and depth as possible. To hold that while the rest catches up. A smart tactic that will lose some lives now but allow the war to end sooner and save many many many more lives in the future.
A small force engaging with a larger force held in reserve is not remotely blitzkrieg tactics. If you want modern examples look to the 6 Day War or Desert Storm. Blitzkrieg is all about psychological shock caused by all-out attack. This is a more probing attack looking for comparative strengths and weaknesses, similar to recon by fire in small unit tactics. Once assets are committed to an AO it becomes harder to reposition them. A probing approach allows you to determine where the highest resistance is and commit your reserves in the most effective manner.
The doctrine the Russians seem to be using is more appropriate when you don't want to leave the country broken.

100 tanks and 3400 soldiers in 2 days? Nah

A lot of the Russians captured are telling similar stories that they didn’t know they were invading the Ukraine and that they thought they were conducting training missions or that they were told after they arrived that the Ukraine invaded Russia.
There seems to be a lot of Russian troops who are surrendering.

All propaganda yo. How could you possibly believe they don’t know why they’re there? Lol
Posted on 2/26/22 at 1:54 am to MrLSU
They probably were told to say that. Obviously they knew it wasn’t a training exercise.

And this thought is why most Southerners believe that Lee was a better General than Grant, which is just false.

Better. What a word. You can have better tactics, better weapons, better soldiers.
But in the end better can’t beat better buttered or better birthed.
Meaning that eventually, better supplied and better numbers win out.
A better army is your best bet in the short term. But unless you achieve your objective fast, better won’t last.
It really does all boil down to logistics.

We have collected evidence of another Russian unit sustaining losses in Ukraine. This is the 96th Separate Reconnaissance Brigade of the 1st Guards Tank Army, currently fighting on Kharkiv and also like Chernihiv axes.
Videos posted by Ukrainians show Rys and Typhoon-K armored cars with "96" on the doors, which might designate unit number.
Another video shows a PoW who claims to be from unit 52634 — which is the unit code for the 96th Brigade.
A photo shows captured papers with the same code
For those saying they're using inferior troops first and holding their best units in reserve, the 1st Guards Tank Army is Russia's premier armored formation. They're based around Moscow and have the best equipment and best training. They're throwing the best they have at Ukraine and Ukraine is making them pay.

Wish we actually knew what was going on. Thursday night we were expecting a major bombing of Kyiv, and it didn’t happen. Last night we expected a major Russia assault on Kyiv, and while there was some fighting, there wasn’t a massive Russian push to take the city last night.

Who’s the last president that would’ve done something like this if America were being invaded? Eisenhower? Reagan? Teddy Roosevelt?
Eisenhower is the correct answer. TR would have done the same.

Let it be remembered that the only time this scenario occurred, during the War of 1812, the president, James Madison, evacuated. Most times it's the right call.

Without a doubt, Zelensky is making the right call if his goal is to ensure that Ukraine maintains nationhood. It honestly doesn't matter if Russia overtakes Kiev. The memory of these fighters, including Zelensky, is the kind of heroism that forges and maintains a national identity, decades into the future.
And Russia is ultimately too economically and militarily weak to hold Ukraine forever.
It's just astounding to see such selflessness from a political figure today. I honestly can't think of a single Western leader in the past 30 years who would do something like this to fight for something bigger than themselves.
There are lots of reports that Russia is blocking Twitter and Instagram. Those are the actions of a government scared to death that its own citizens will see the depravity in Ukraine and demand change.

No way that's true
Entirely plausible. Bad thing happen when advanced weapons systems are deployed by tens of thousands of troops, seemingly often against forces that are taking high stakes forward positions and sometimes failing, ala Hostomel. It's also likely that Ukrainian casualties could be three times as high when civilians are chucked in, but that number won't be reported for morale reasons.

Kira Rudik is a member of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament). She also used to run the Ukrainian branch of Ring Inc's doorbell service.

Imagine a member of Congress doing this. I'll never forget the group therapy sessions they had on the floor of the House of Representatives in the aftermath of January 6.
