This is a Strongman competitor from Ukraine I've followed for a while now, Oleksii Novikov. He's the 2020 World's Strongest Man. I think he was told to leave the country for Poland in advance of a competition he has in a week or so in the US.

Anyway, you can tell how this weighs on him, and he's doing what he can with his popularity to help. They've raised money and sent it all to local doctors treating the wounded. I just wanted to pass the video along because it kind of got to me. He's a good dude who just wants to compete and live his life. He won the WSM title just days after his grandfather died. Tough dude who I'm sure is torn being away from his country now.

Assuming everything we’re hearing is true (major assumption) then the Russians are getting raped. Just take everything with a grain of salt for the time being.

A sounder assumption is that everyone is experiencing the same conditions; war is terrible, and even those who come out on the victorious end are going to be badly damaged-- so safer to assume that both sides are getting what they give, good and hard, right back at them. When the smoke clears, whatever is standing and in control, will be declared the victor, but the dead will be just as dead.

Even if/when Ukrainian cities fall to Russia, this thing is far from over.

Based on what I've seen from the Russian military so far, they aren't even remotely prepared to actually hold these towns and cities amongst a very hostile population. And it's shocking that they've incurred this level of casualties so far, given the advantages they have.

I'm especially shocked that Ukraine downed two Il-76 transport planes and effectively wiped out two paratrooper companies. Every Russian military death is meaningful when it's the Ukrainians who have nothing to lose.

All the Kyiv streams are down now?
VPN through Kyiv still holding strong at 150mbps. I guess cams being down would make sense if they're wireless AND Russia is actively jamming signals.

The Ukrainians appear to be allowing the initial waves to move through, and attacking the logistical support moving in after them, cutting off the supply lines.

If true, would be awesome and also quite impressive to any military mind.

Yeah, that country is going to be hell to occupy for the Russian soldiers. Ukraine is fighting like hell, and God bless them for it. I’m praying for them, and they seem to be holding them off so far.

I think this may be unlike anything seen in modern times due to the relative closeness of the combatants in many ways.

Ukraine’s Deadly Gamble
By tying itself to a reckless and dangerous America, the Ukrainians made a blunder that client states will study for years to come

Why won’t the US national security establishment come clean about its role in current Ukraine conflict? Because it would expose how it uses Kyiv as an instrument to destabilize governments — Including America’s.

Read somewhere that these reinforcement lines are why the Russian casualties are being reported as so high.

If true, then the Russians are screwed

Like I said before, an army marches on its stomach.

In ages past, when cavalry reigned, mounted armies could move across the steppe, pillaging and burning, horses surviving on grass and water, armies surviving on their provisions and what they could take from the land, for a while.

There wasn’t as much of a need to have stable supply lines back to where they came from in order to be self sustaining. They could continue the march.

Tanks don’t eat grass or drink water, and the resources they need to continue their path of wrath are ripe targets for insurgents. The Russians may be finding this out now, as their horses starve and their guns are low on ammo.

The steppe may still belong to the Cossacks.

There’s a lot of good info there but also some possibly suspect positions. Will have to read later without winebrain but good to read even if skewed (not saying it is but may be).

CNN's Kaitlin Collins was talking about SWIFT and both the US/EU could be shutting it down to Russia as soon as today.

Something we haven't talked about in awhile...the ISS. According to NASA:
quote:

“Ongoing station operations continue including work to fly crew to the orbital outpost and to return them safely to Earth.”

That will include the return of Nasa astronaut Mark Vande Hei, who is set to come back to Earth on 30 March, using a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

The ISS currently hosts six people in addition to Vande Hei: ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer, Nasa astronauts Raja Chari, Thomas Marshburn, and Kayla Barron, and two Russian Cosmonauts, Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov.
5-2 but if I'm NASA, I'd be getting a SpaceX crew capsule ready to go up and get him if need be.

The Russians didn't study U.S. Grant.

What's the saying?

"In War, Heroes and 'Geniuses' believe in Tactics. Winners believe in logistics."

Something along those lines.

Read it today or yesterday.

May be a new saying, but still an accurate one.

Who’s the last president that would’ve done something like this if America were being invaded? Eisenhower? Reagan? Teddy Roosevelt?
