I think a Sino-American war would be fought mostly in the air and on the seas, unless it escalates to nuclear war. If it broke out tomorrow, the US would annihilate their air force and navy.
20 years from now, maybe only 10-15, the Chinese will have a numbers advantage if not technological superiority.
It’s amazing to me that the US keeps trading with a China that is devoted to our downfall. We are essentially funding the growing dragon that wants to slay us.

Could not agree more and that is my fear, not the today but the 20 or so years from now. That’s a long time for a nation with the will and capacity the Chinese have. Stealing advanced tech certainly helps.
I mentioned this in a post some hundreds of pages back. I worry that on a larger scale what this “conflict” is doing is teaching China what to expect and giving them notes to learn from. I consider the possibility the real puppet here was Putin having his strings pulled by Xi to some degree for his own gain. This is not to take away from Russian history and Putin’s ambitions as driving forces behind this, but a consideration Xi played it to his own advantage. I find it hard to believe with known Chinese espionage and stolen/treasonously sold tech plans that they weren’t aware of the significant advantage of the west vs Russia.
As frequently mentioned ITT, they are content playing the long game so realistically they’re fine watching this and taking time to adjust. They’re also not dumb, they know they need a significantly larger and more capable navy to come at us so they already know the time horizon isn’t immediate with respect to us.

It'll be with a lot of gizmos and gadgets and technologies that many of us are not presently aware of.
I listened to an interview with Bill O'Reilly where he was hawking his new book Killing the Killers. He said that he knows from off-the-record sources the US indeed has stuff that we mere mortals can't imagine. Some of this ties into Space Force. But for those of you skeptics or not, I was encouraged when I heard this considering all the propaganda we've heard about undefeatable hypersonic technology from Russia and China, I was encouraged.

True, but they still have over 1.4 billion people they can’t completely feed properly. They’ve got almost as many males between 20-44 as we do total population. Population decline or not, they hold significant advantage in terms of fighting aged males, who also are much less likely to be obese and unfit for duty.
So does India. And we all know this. If China could defeat the world based on population alone they would rule the world now.

And yet, you don't contribute anything of substance to the discussion. No analysis of said reports or even links for others to make their own analysis.

Of course, that is only part of the calculus, but I agree with others a war between us and China is largely air and sea based. However, should ground warfare take place, size of opponent forces is a factor.

IMO, a “conventional” war with China would mean the Western Pacific sea lanes are closed to both sides. As a net exporter of food the US would have the advantage of a protracted war. China having to feed that large of a populace would be detrimental to their war effort. Stockpiles only last so long. Same for oil. The us can get production up and supplies from Africa and South America. China can’t produce enough domestically and needs SE Asia and African production to meet needs.
Wild card would be cyber and space warfare. China knocking out satellites and hacking energy grid and communications

Surely our military has thought about this for a while. If a country had to invade China this is a real problem. If China transports these troops elsewhere that is a problem for them. Anything China will want to do will involve them getting men and lots of material on ships and moving them. That is a problem. Unless they want to invade Nepal or India and there are issues with that.

We need that Tupperware baw. Chinese peasants would be the downfall of the USA if we were to get into a long term conflict. If we would it would be in their bac yard.
Also our ship building would come to a screeching halt. Everyone who works for ABS is Chinese. We could never get anything approved.

Vladimir Putin's health is a subject of intense conversation inside the Biden administration after the intelligence community produced its fourth comprehensive assessment at the end of May. The classified U.S. report says Putin seems to have re-emerged after undergoing treatment in April for advanced cancer, three U.S. intelligence leaders who have read the reports tell Newsweek.
quote:
"Putin's grip is strong but no longer absolute," says one of the senior intelligence officers with direct access to the reports. "The jockeying inside the Kremlin has never been more intense during his rule, everyone sensing that the end is near."

It’s a slug-fest, with artillery making it incredibly hard for anyone to go on the offensive. That mostly plays to Ukraine’s advantage right now as it holds its ground on the eastern Donbas front, buying time for western weapons and fresh units to deploy. But it hampers Ukrainian efforts to retake territory in Kharkiv and Kherson regions despite the relatively thin presence of Russian military forces. Hence, we shouldn’t expect big sweeping gains by anybody anytime soon.

Summary Of Severodonetsk Events Last Two Days:
Ukrainian forces counterattacked and pushed Russian forces out of the centre to previous positions. Then using reinforcements from LNR and DNR Russians pushed Ukrainian forces out of the centre creating a no mans land.
quote:
The thing people need to realise is that Severodonetsk is an extremely fluid battle space, and lines can change quickly.
Russian propaganda is pushing a narrative the counter attack never happened! It did happen but it has been pushed back some what!
quote:
Ukrainian counterattack was real, however it was pushed back due to huge amount of reinforcements pumped into Severodonetsk, the centre of the city is no mans lands heavy fighting continues into the night.
quote:
Russians only have firm control on the north east and certain parts of eastern Severodonetsk, the rest land in-between is no mans lands.
quote:
Everyone is saying different things, even people near the fighting are confused of the situation.
The minute FOG of war clears I will update!
quote:
The frontlines in the city are so fluid, huge territory change is exchanged even in hours.
One thing for certain the goal of inflicting huge casualties on Russians has been achieved.
