These Ukrainian Soldiers are probably done

#Ukraine: Russian sources report the use of a ZALA KYB kamikaze UAV on a group of UA soldiers in Pavlivka, #Donetsk Oblast on May 8th.

The result is the clear example why the threat of loitering munitions shouldn't be underestimated - even if the KYB has a high failure rate.

T-62's spotted in Ukraine

The T-62 series is inferior to others in UA in many ways- armour, gun, optics/FCS & 4-man crew.

The latter is quite a serious issue, as all other Russian MBT have 3 crew members, but to normally operate a T-62 a loader is required- how many trained crews Russia has is uncertain.

ETA: video of the T62's on railcars.

#Ukraine: Videos recently appeared showing ancient T-62M & T-62MV tanks being moved from military storage in Rostov Oblast & Crimea, for possible use in UA.

These are stored in the Russian mobilisation reserve- but most were already donated to Tajikistan, LNA (Libya) & Syria.

Update on Lyman situation

Lyman Map:
Russians have taken the north side of the town and have taken the south east road leading out of the town. They are pushing also from the west. Notably they have taken the railway station area south west, this will eventually squeeze Ukrainian units out.

Russians are pushing hard to south of Lyman to the high rise buildings, they are pushing with everything they have and are sustaining huge losses. Ukrainian forces inflict massive casualties and equipment loss.

Video of a Switchblade 300 being launched

#Ukraine: For the first time we see the self-contained ground launch of US-supplied Switchblade 300 loitering munitions by the Ukrainian forces- these drones are starting to be used more widely in the East and are great against non-armoured targets and infantry.

This is a wonderful little fiction that may still pertain to some old school Russians living in the hinterlands of the Urals or down in the Caucuses... But how in the hell do you jive this with the rise of the hundreds of grotesquely wealthy Oligarchs that have sprung up around Putin? How does this fit in with the famous graft and corruption of the Russian armed forces? How does this mesh with the atrocities committed by the Russians in almost every war or internal regime change they have ever been involved in?....

Evidence of corruption in Russia and its impact on their army.

Interesting, but from the Ukrainian DoD, so skepticism is warranted.

This string of updates certainly don’t sound favorable for the Ukrainians. Hopefully the reserves are nearing battle readiness. I’ve seen a couple of accounts saying some major fighting is taking place tonight.

Agreed.

If they can stand this punch from the Russians, I hope they can regroup and hit back.

I'd just like to take the time to point out two things:

1. Thanks for those who continue to provide updates relevant to the point of this thread.

2. Certain drive by posters in this thread need to take notes on how we have a good group of posters in here who post *all* of the news, not just the selective ones that help their side.

Keep up the good work baws.

The Ukrainians are moving back to their fall back positions after suffering heavy casualties the past week or so. Here is a good and neutral analysis of the situation.

I would disagree but y’all completely lost me after I saw the rare sight of American political bipartisanship for that 40 billion dollar act. Yep, frick that, I’m not going to be on the side of Pelosi & Graham.

This seems to conflict. Anyone have a better take on the numbers situation?

200,000 soldiers on the front line fighting the Russians and 500,000 reservists in training. Per my friends in the UAF, at least 200,000 of the 500,000 reservist are combat veterans who needed only a little refresher training and getting back into physical shape, but have mostly been training on how to operate the NATO equipment. Those 200,000 began being deployed a few weeks ago, and are now being used to reinforce and replace exhausted and fought out units. The other 300,000 are reservists who had not seen combat and not only had to go through bootcamp but also other schools to get ready for war. They could be thrown in to the fight if needed in an emergency, but most will likely be combat ready in mid July or August. Per my friends in the UAF, their battle plan is to give ground and wear the Russian combat forces down and then launch a major counterattack in the summer when they received all the weapons from the west and have 750,000 soldiers ready for combat while Russia is on track with loses to have less than 150,000 ready for combat.

That has been their plan all along. Give ground and slow down and wear out the Russian advance until it’s reservists were trained and the equipment from NATO was not just promised but actually on hand. Unless something unexpected happens the Ukrainians are still on track to do that.

Now if Russia gets its act together and launches a major mobilization then Ukraine might be in trouble, but it looks like Russia is trying to secure as much of the Donbas as it can and force the Ukrainians to negotiate a peace before the Ukrainians are ready to launch their massive counterattack. Russia will be in trouble if Ukraine says no and launches a counterattack with 700,000 plus troops and over 1000 tanks.
