It looks like the Russians are making some progress. Twitter links below.

Popasna occupies the high ground there. The Russians are now looking down on the Ukrainian positions around them.
I haven’t followed up, but I saw what you saw, reports of several towns falling to the Russians overnight.

My opinion (worth what you paid for it) is that Ukraine is fighting a slow retreat trying to bleed the Russians as much as possible and slow their advance until they are ready to fully launch their attack into the Izyum flank.
Todays updates feel like they need this to happen soon. Thank you for detailed response. It’s worth more than mine

Not that Shtora is working worth a damn on T-90s anyway.
Yep, Shtora also doesn't seem to do much against an IR-guided missile like the Javelins, maybe even laser-guided ones, though it is easy just to laze the ground near the tank to avoid detection. I think it has to do with the IR jammers having a limited vertical arc, I think even horizontally they only have about 45 degrees which is why the turrent has to turn in the direction of the detected missile to deploy. I think both China and India were disappointed in their trial of Shtora.
Arena only works against a Javelin if it is used in direct fire mode since it can't prevent the top-down attack. Arena also does not work in the rear. IIRC Arena is mounted on the T-14 turret so it can turn to cover the rear but always has that ~60 degrees that it doesn't cover.

Ukraine is going to have to make some hard choices about what areas to defend and what areas to cede ground. I know they want to hang onto the Donbas but they also have to think about Odesa. Allowing the Russians to completely control all Ukraine’s coast line and border to Moldova would be a disaster. I know the Russians still have the Odesa port blocked with their navy but they can’t let troops occupy that ground. Moldova has to feel extremely vulnerable right now.

I think this is why we've seen such a focus on Snake Island. With the loss of the Moskova, the Russians need Snake Island to base SAM systems on to provide coverage on any naval operations along the coastline.

They’re selling the Terminator turret as part of an upgrade package for older MBTs. You can mate it to both a T72 and a T55.

Is it true that 1,500 of our troops have recently been deployed there?

#Lyman Update - The situation around #Lyman is rapidly deteriorating for #Ukrainian troops. Today, #Russia captured Novoselivka to the NW and may have captured Yarova. Lyman is now surrounded on three sides with only destroyed bridges over the Donets on the 4th side.

Rebel media say the Ukrainians blew the Donets river dam to slow the Russians down. This will trap the Ukrainian forces in Lyman though.

Deployed where?

All the Ukrainians have to do is get the USA M777 artillery within range of Izium supply lines. Rocket assisted GPS guided artillery shells combined with drone and US satellite real time targeting info is gonna frick some Russian shite up.
If they don't get blown up first
Only Russia would put out a video showing them tracking the enemy artillery, completely missing said enemy artillery with a loitering attack, and an MLRS strike with no secondary explosions seen after impact, and not even know if any of their attacks caused any damage. Not saying that Ukraine never misses or anything like that, but at least when they put out a video for propaganda purposes it makes them look good.

I'm sure all the world's backwater terror organizations are taking notes.
I am pretty sure that the terrorists already knew about that trick. IIRC there are videos of ISIS using this against Iraqi troops back in like 2015 or 2016. However, the Iraqi's figured out how the counter it by shutting down the cell networks that ISIS was using to control the drones.

Anyone have any clue if they can put up the kind of fight Mariupol did being encircled?
Its a different kind of fight. Azovstal was a fortress beneath a steel mill. The Donbas is flat, open farmland. if UA is surrounded, bad news, but I don't think the RA will succeed in doing so. Ukraine has been preparing for this for 8 years.
quote:
"The Azovstal factory, where the soldiers are stationed, but probably also the citizens - is a giant complex of thick concrete walls, steel doors and reinforced underground shutters.
"It's basically a sub-city," writes the New York Times.
Daily Mail reporter John Lawson has published the photo showing a series of tunnels under the factory, which were built during the Cold War when there was a major threat of a nuclear conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States.
Based on what is shown in the picture, the tunnels are located on six floors underground, and within this space can accommodate up to 40 thousand people in case of a nuclear attack.
When it comes to the surface of the factory itself, there are a number of depots, chimneys that also provide a kind of protection for Ukrainian soldiers.
Considering the position of the tunnel, experts also estimate that it is almost impossible to penetrate with bombings - as Russian soldiers would have to use a special technique to close the tunnels or force the soldiers out.
In addition to being difficult to reach the tunnels, they provide an opportunity for Ukrainian soldiers to still be able to carry out attacks on Russian troops stationed in the city.
The tunnels enable brigades to come to the surface and carry out guerrilla attacks on Russian troops.
The system of tunnels is similar to labyrinths, where there is still enough space for soldiers to organize attacks on the Russian army on the surface.
It is believed that about 1,500 Ukrainian soldiers are stationed in the tunnel system.
And the only way for the Russian military to "clean up" this part is to use chemical weapons.
Azovstal factory is a fortress
