In a city with terrible crime and a police shortage, he wants to spend money removing a fricking statue? I'd bet it would cost ~$50k just to remove it. Probably north of $300k to remove it and replace it with another statue. There are people in New Orleans that aren't even bothering to call the police for minor crimes (theft, battery) because they know that police won't bother to show up. That money could put 1-5 extra cops on the streets to actually do something useful.

I'm glad to hear the statue is coming down.
Once the statue is removed, NOLA will become a shining beacon of racial harmony, the crime rate will go down drastically, entitlement programs will not be needed as everyone has a job, and all areas of the city will be safe to walk around I at any hour of the day.
