re: Banff recommendations
Posted by STCTiger985 on 11/17/25 at 4:44 pm to Ttiger37
I just played Kananaskis Mount Kidd Course and I was able to play at twilight 9 hole round at Banff Springs this past summer.
Way better bang for your buck with Kananaskis, but both have amazing views. It was a little hard to get a tee time. Make sure you check their tee time release schedule leading up to your trip. The course is only open from May to October so times book up quickly.
There's plenty of time to play 2 courses in one day so I would recommend setting aside one trip day to play golf. If you are traveling with a spouse send to the Nordic Spa for the day in Kananaskis or the Banff Springs spa.

Some spoilers below.....
I think the original top gun comparison is great.
I've been watching f1 for the last 5 years or so and some of the race sequences were painful to watch. The FIA would never have allowed half the stuff that happened in most if not all of the races they featured. Letting a driver they just met a few weeks back handle all the race strategy while driving 200mph in the rain was laugh out loud bad.
A little girl power here and there was not too bad, but nothing compares to the poker scene. Building up a lead engineer as a trailblazer in the sport only to be reduced to a one-night stand that needs the help of a guy who hasn't raced on the F1 circuit in 30 years. Which the strategy mostly revolves around coming in last but delaying or basically crashing the other competitors. Yet when they other driver goes down, suddenly he can finish top 10 without crashing people or the help of the backup driver?
Lots of brand placement throughout. Nothing like drinking a couple Heineken Zeros before a big race in the morning! Also the old driver that hates using phones also just happens to have the new Apple AirPods Max!
Overall, it seemed like all the parts for a good movie were there, but the script just did not meet the expectations.
Having a Hans Zimmer score in the background always helps boost up an average movie.
It was still a fun watch and I am sure people that never watch F1 will love it. Whatever gets more people in the theatre seats is fine with me.

I second this. The course amenities are really nice as well.
Bev cart prices were great which I was surprised to see after walking into that proshop.
Nice bar right next to the driving range and on the turn. Looked liked they had a pizza oven going as well.
Thought the greens fees were pretty steep but the course was in excellent condition.

It has some high points, but I agree the lows exceed the highs.
Has a similar feel to the showdowns or whatever they are calling them on TNT at the Vegas courses.
I think the reality is with no consequences for lack of success, the players will never care about this enough to be fun to watch.
Not saying I want to see bad golfers missing the screen, but at least the TNT exhibitions have Chuck

Just played PGA Riviera Maya in December.
Was really nice, but I was not blown away by the course for the $200+ green fee and rentals were $100 but its vacation golf so who cares. One hole had a cave and the par 3 at the end was picture worthy. Was very surprised to see no starter or marshal around the course. Pace of play was pretty slow because of that.
The service from the staff was great. Club House is incredibly nice and still renovating around the entire compound. The bar at the driving range and the turn is very cool. Did not get a chance to try the pizza they were making in the coal fired oven. Great prices on the beer from the bev cart girl.
Would have preferred to play El Camaleón but it was quite far from the resort we were at.

Thought this was somewhat of a surprise as well. This is only one I have seen from the nominees so far, but with the hype of Brutalist & Anora I was happy to see it go to Conclave. Seeing Anora today and maybe some day Brutalist will be available at my local theatres

Still in theatre at the moment. Not a ton of showings from what I could see.
Only had one showing at 2:30 Pm on a Monday for me in my area.

Just saw this one today. Did not see a thread on this one so I figured it is going under the radar.
Probably one of, if not my favorite movie I saw this year.
I will say this is definitely targeted to the early 90's kids like myself.
I think Didi is the male version of Eighth Grade or even Lady Bird. If you liked those, you have to give this one a watch.

Should be shown along side some of the all time great WW2 films.
Such a powerful movie without saying a whole lot.
Placed a bet on it for best sound right after seeing it. While Oppenheimer's sound was awesome, the sound told the story in Zone of Interest
Loved how they ended the movie as well.

Stono Ferry was very nice. Just outside the city.
If youre willing to drive to Kiawah, just play the other courses on the island and just go to the Ocean Course clubhouse.
Play Turtle Point. They have 3 holes that are basically on the beach as well.
Osprey Point and Oak Point were also great. Far cheaper but still a solid price tag.
