We were a Clearview Mall family, but we’d go over to Severn for some Swensen’s ice cream every once in awhile if Dad was feeling generous.

Can you imagine anything with amenities like that existing today?

Certainly not in New Orleans East. Elections have consequences.

Mrs Wheatley’s meat pies that was so so good .. no one ever seems to recall that place though
My parents would take us there when we ventured from the East into Metairie. Thought it was called Mrs. Wheat's.

Eta: Did a search. Is this the same company? Mrs. Wheat's

I went a couple of Thursdays ago during the day. It was noticeable walking around. No problems, but said to the wife we seem to be the only white people in the mall.

Lakeside Mall - The Mall Killer

This person goes to malls around the nation, especially dying or dead malls. His episodes on NOLA malls are good. The one on Lakeside is especially good.

The Esplanade was a great mall but couldn't sustain as the area couldn't expand because of lake and swamps then the houses got older/ cheaper as the money moved to the Northshore.

Esplanade was doing well until it was looted following Katrina.

Oh yeah, that’s it.. i remember seeing their meat pies in grocery stores years later, and i think maybe a booth at Jazzfest- but i think the restaurant was only open for like a year or two in the early ‘80s .

Mrs. Wheat's was on Vets near the trampoline place my parents never took me to because they said I'd break my neck.

We need to patronize the Lakeside Mall. It is very much worthy of our support.

Yes we’ve been infested with Indians, Arabs, N. Africans, and some Asians over the past few years to where it’s now very noticeable. Costco is a great example anytime you go there. Rarely hear English
I loved seeing a local Somali gas station owner in Costco recently with a cart FULL of milk he buys with his ebt and then sells marked up at his store.

Yall sound fun.

Lakeside is a textbook lesson on what malls should still be. Once a year a Christmas we will drive over from St. George and do some shopping - the quality of stores in one spot just doesn't exist here in BR.

I feel Mall of La has a little better shot now that all anchors or full and a few of the newer stores but we will see - they should be taking notes.

I like that mall. It’s classy and no hood rats.

Only I’ve seen better is North Park in Dallas.

Internal malls are best for Summer and nasty weather.

God forbid someone who doesn’t look like you shows up because they also needed to get a pair of pants or something. What a sad comment.

I used to be in that food court all the time after high school. Playing in Challenges. I worked at Sabarro. Good times.
