“The ground-level loop will include two 12-foot lanes of traffic in each direction with the space to add two lanes if warranted in the future.

“We’re trying to pull a lot of traffic off main thoroughfares in Lafayette,” Elaine Abell, chairman of the expressway commission, said.

The expressway is expected to ease traffic in Lafayette, she said, and also should help residents in the New Orleans area and to the south of Lafayette evacuate ahead of hurricanes.“

1 and 5 seem to make the most sense, ergo, it will be 2 and 3.

They’ll put traffic lights on it at 500 yard intervals. Won’t be a loop. Just another version of 90 or Amb. Caffery.

I’m for anything that will turn Johnston and Ambassador Caffery into less of a clusterfrick at 5pm.

1/5 is the only one that makes any sense. 1 could be moved a little farther west.

5 going all the way to 182 is smart. Stopping Ambassador Caffery extension at 90 was such a dumb move. It should have gone the extra 200 yards to 182.

I’d never see 1,5. That’s way out there

It seems like that's the point though. As a bypass it makes the most sense.

No way they put an expressway directly through Sugar Mill Pond.

eta: As long as I still get to ride my lifted golf cart to Rouse’s and Corner Bar it’s all good.

That is my fear. Lafayette had a metro loop proposal back in the 70/80s that got approved. I kept a map for a long time that showed the proposed metro loop. I recall when they began construction. I was perplexed as I saw them putting up lights on said metro loop.

For those who wonder where this abortion of a metro loop ended up, look no further than that level of Dante's Inferno known as Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

I guess if you’re trying to go from lake Charles to Houma

ETA I’d much rather a wall around the Lafayette city limits to limit our traffic
