But when you find out on a message board that there's a final public meeting that you could possibly lose family land that has been passed down from generation to generation. Yeah, there's cause for concern.
Same. Glad we had it all appraised and understand what it’s worth. We are also sugar mill pond adjacent. No way that area is bulldozed.

Not that it's really any of your business, but it's land passed down from my grandfather's side that he inherited. Part of it 3 families live on it, including my wife and I. Part of it has rental property on it and part of it is used for hay that a relative uses for his cattle. It's sad how some of you find this humorous how someone could be uprooted from their home not by their choice. I understand that it's progress and I also understand that by the time that, if this were to pass, I probably won't be here to see it. But it's what my kids can identify as home, roots and their heritage. And one more thing. If you had a choice of selling your property to two entities, one being a commercial developer and the other the state for a highway development. Out of the two, which one would you rather deal with to get the better deal knowing that one has the power of eminent domain?

I feel your pain, but you won’t get anywhere with these people. It ain’t their land that’s being considered so they don’t give two shits. But tell them they have to give up something they own and watch them squall like sheep.
Good luck. Hope they give you more than they want for the property.

Hardy toll road in Houston is about $3.50 for up to 20 miles

You kind of made it everyone's business with you decided to post about your land situation on the internet.

As someone who has done both, I would rather deal with the gov’t. They will give you 10-25% over FMV. A contractor will try to screw you up down and sideways. In the end, if you don’t sell. He will buy out you neighbors who will sell, build around you, and send the drainage at you.

Not only that, but the NIMBY attitude is what's stopping any progression from happening in Louisiana.
But I guess that's the motto.

I heard about this meeting 25 years ago.

funny thing about this is, you'd be a NIMBY too if you were the one being effected by whatever is planned.
I guarantee you'd be screaming like a stuck pig if someone proposed a halfway house or homeless shelter near your home. Even if it was proposed in the name of "progress". And if someone was telling you to give up something you hold dear, you'd be pissed too. Christ, people lose their shite when they gate a canal off from the public for fishing or close a hunting lease. Imagine if it was your personal, family property.
I'm all for improving the area, but I can't fault a guy fighting it when he's the one who is directly effected.
and that doesn't even address the fact that things done in the name of "progress" in this state are usually done halfassed and poorly executed.
I'm convinced the reason people are so resistant to change here is because experience has taught them that change usually results in something negative and they have zero trust in those in charge of "progress".

I am smack in line with Route 1. Come and pay me is my feeling on it. I have no problem getting more than FMV for my home and moving. It's just land, it's just a house.

No shite. Come buy my place tomorrow and I will be moved out by the weekend.

If I could get a 25% premium on my house, I’d sell today.

Not to mention avoid paying realtor costs. That is a huge savings.

What is the price per mile?
quote:
If it is $4 -$5 to get on this loop then that is reasonable.
Not even remotely close to being reasonable for that distance. You think people are going to pay $25.00-$30.00 x's 2 per week to travel on that? You're retarded.
You do understand (no you actually don't) that "per pop" simply means each time a vehicle passes through a toll booth, such as on the Beltway in Houston or TX99. Since you want to compare "miles", how many miles is the Beltway and or TX99 (what's completed thus far)?
Now how many miles is this so called Lafayette bypass supposed to be?
The point you're obviously missing, knucklehead, is that even though it would cost $4-$5.00 "a pop" to travel that bypass, nobody in their right frame of mind will pay that EVEN if it's just a one time charge of $4-$5.00 per entry onto that bypass. Now it's even more stupid if there were to be multiple tool booths/entry points within that bypass at $4-$5.00 a pop. No matter how many times you want to compare, it's not apples to apples.
So please prove how you can guarantee that I don't know what I'm talking about. Apparently it is you that lacks comprehension.
