re: Lafayette ranked in the top 10 small cities that could become next powerhouses

It's the only city in the state with over a 100k population that has competent leadership. Robideaux has been traveling across the country meeting with tech companies and the like to sell them on Lafayette. Sharon and LaToya are having catered lunches for various task forces and speaking "truth to power."

Probably should be its own thread, but:
Jet Maintenance Facility Coming to Lake Charles
256 jobs
$80,000 average salary

The downturn has been nothing like the bust of the 80s

Yeah I would agree.. This is more like a shake-out if you ask me. All those idiots who make $90k a year on 100 hours a week suddenly realize that without overtime, they can't afford an F-350, a boat, and an ATV for neighborhood cruising.
Meanwhile, people living within their means seem to be doing just fine

wish he would travel to BR and meet with DOTD to get them to fix the Surrey Street Bridge. I'd take that over a tech company at the moment.

I am in the foreclosure industry and the Lafayette area is a hotbed for what I do right now. In fact, that area has led the nation in year over year growth of mortgages 90 days or more late for a few months over the past 2 years. That's not a sign of a growing area.

So he is not good at sales evidently.

I feel like it’s got a lot of potential compared to other cities in the state besides Lake Charles. That place is about to blow up. I just read that wildlife and fisheries are combining their opelousas and new Iberia offices to create one large office near the I-10/I-49 intersection in Lafayette if that counts for anything

Could you compare Mandeville and Lafayette? Are they similar in size or does Mandeville rely on Nola heavily for industry?

I wish but I don't handle that side of things. I handle the acquisition and maintenance. If you see my guys coming to your place along with a deputy you aren't going to have a real good day.

Going by TD alone, Baton Rouge is a drug infested war zone with a dangerously inept mayor and a local government and school system that is lacking to the point that the best portion of the city/parish wants to break away and form it's own city.
Until you bring up Lafayette. Then Baton Rouge is suddenly the pearl of the Mississippi.

Mandeville~ 12,000 population
Lafayette ~ 130,000 population in city limits. ~240,000 in Lafayette parish and 400,000 in metro area

Out of curiosity, was a lot of that from flood houses? I imagine a bunch of people without flood insurance just said screw it and walked away.

Take everything that's either good or bad about Lafayette and multiply it by 3
That's Baton Rouge

Nope. It started way before the flood
