Not to mention, for being a city over 100,000 people, Lafayette sure has a small amount of tall buildings. Their downtown has looked the exact same for the past 15 years.
I've always wondered about this. Seems like the biggest city I've ever seen that really has no semblance of a downtown skyline at all. Why is that?

I was just about to say that same thing. I feel like the demographics in Lafayette are definitely favorable compared to other cities in the state such as Alexandria Monroe BR or Shreveport.

Is this another article that compares Lafayette to "Austin before it was AUSTIN!"??
I live in Lafayette. I like it. but then again I like food, music, drinking, and sports.
I'm sure it will grow, when given a choice between North Louisiana, Lake Charles, or BR/NOLA (I combined them because their mayors seem to have them on the same path)

Downtown looks like an east Texas small town downtown.

My wife is from Lafayette and I’ve been there plenty of times. Whole city seems like a cluster of suburbs with some commercial areas.

I mean it's possible, but if the recent downturn has shown us anything, it's that lafayette is far too dependent on oil/gas. Tech companies may be an avenue for growth due to the city's fiber optic capabilities, but there hasn't been much growth in the 5+ years that fiber has been around. So, I'm not too confident there.
As for infrastructure, the city can't even handle the current population. Lafayette traffic is pretty terrible

They are 100%. And the tech industry seems to be growing as well with CGI.

Damn near every town in Tx has a loop! Those tech companies could be a possibility. Being located 3 hours west of Houston and about 5 or 6 from West Florida.

Not to be a debbie downer but Lafayette does not have the educated enough population base nor social economical climate to draw a company from Houston / Austin / DFW.
Maybe a startup, but not a full-fledged company.

But at least you have Louisiana written on the front of your baseball jerseys. And at the end of the day, that's the most important thing in Lafayette.
