Lafayette, La was ranked in the top 10 cities expected to grow even more. Decent quality of life, not in bfe like some other places, low crime and good schools both public and private. Hopefully Lafayette invests in some infrastructure so they don’t become the next Baton Rouge meaning they are capable of servicing a population boom. Might not be too late? What do y’all think

Powerhouse based on what? They'll need another industry besides O&G.

I’ve been hearing this about Lafayette since 2002 or so when river ranch was being built. Not to mention, for being a city over 100,000 people, Lafayette sure has a small amount of tall buildings. Their downtown has looked the exact same for the past 15 years.

All true. The only thing holding Lafayette back is the economy. They are highly reliant on oilfield services, and that market is in the toilet right now. If things don't turn around soon, the retail sales and service industries around there will start closing en-masse.

So in other words, if Lafayette had other jobs and wasn’t so reliant on the oil & gas industry, they’d possibly see some real growth?

Lafayette has the most favorable demographics of the LA cities over 100k. The problem is that they are still in LA and have to deal with the ineptitude of our state government.

Exactly. The main idea has been to build up the tech sector through the actually really great IT and robotics programs at ULL and the gigabit fiber internet infrastructure. So far, it hasn't borne much fruit, but there's still time to build some new industries there. Just look at the success of the Waitr App based out of Lake Charles as an example.

When the price of oil dropped, houses in river ranch went up for sale at an alarming rate.

Tons of late model double wides, F250’s, Ranger boats, and Side x Sides for sale in Lafayette. Guess that’s the sign of a good economy not dependent on the oil industry at all.
