Splitting parish and city councils.

How is everyone from Laffy voting?

No split

More councils means more tax dollars wasted

I'm voting against.

I get the angle of the Lafayette residents in keeping their tax reveenue in the city, but folks from outside of Lafayette spend more money in Lafayette than folks in Lafayette spend outside of the city limits.

I'm voting no.
1)The way they went about getting this on the ballot was shady as shite.
2) This split would create 2 councils and zoning commissions.
3) They redrawing of the parish council could result in all council members being from inside the city limits of Lafayette.

This is a bad deal that a few people who are term limited are trying to shove down the throats of the voters.

Screw them all. I'm not setting up a system where they can jump from city to parish council back and forth.

It seems EBR isn't the only parish with dissatisfied folks.

Any time a government entity wants to split itself into two separate government entities, I'm skeptical at best.

I'm voting for. Parish residents/parish council being able to decide LUS rates is no bueno, among other things. The charter also includes some protections for LUS, preventing management deals without sending a vote to the people.

I’m just here to say that Lafayette is superior to Baton Rouge in every way except 7 Saturday’s in the fall.

I would have agreed with you 15-20 years ago, but nowadays, not so much. Seems like Jefferson street had a good thing going for themselves, but the downtown vibe the past 7 or so years has worsened.

What the huh? Have you been downtown lately? The restaurant scene is definitely picking up.

I’ll just come out and ask -

Would a split allow for a black mayor in Lafayette?

I’m not sure what this means. The USA population is 70% white and we had a black president, so I assume Lafayette could have a black mayor (although the city population is 68% white).

That is one of the reasons I am voting no. City/Parish President remains the same person. Every time this issue comes up, it almost always look like it was drafted by a group of Pre School kids.

I am also telling Mark Garbre to GFY on his half cent tax

We may disagree about LCA but we are 100% in sync here

I’m voting NO.

They won’t tell the voters who wrote the ordinance. No one knows!

The people coming from the parish to the city to shop are using the city infrastructure. That revenue should stay in the city. I’ll vote no on the charter amendment and the tax.

What else is on the ballot? Something about law enforcement? What else?

Secretary of State runoff, charter amendment, and new tax for Lafayette parish sheriff's office (40% increase to budget).
