Everyone in Lafayette votes against any tax proposed.

Really, and what is our sales tax rate?

Agree. But the sheriff's office is $18M in debt.....a debt he inherited.

See? First I’ve heard of that.

He did a terrible job of communicating the financial position of the office and what this money would be used for. I know he filed the covenant, but he did not do a good job of pointing to discrete items he’d use the funds for.

I have no idea how Lafayette citizens were talked into "consolidating" with little satellite towns, each of which still maintains almost full autonomy.

Actually, I do. It's because you're fricking stupid, but Lafayette is now outnumbered and controlled by non-Lafayette people. They have a majority that you/we will never overcome, and the city will be ruled by the country, choosing its own financial benefit over all others, for the foreseeable future.

But I'd love to have heard the sales pitch. Lafayette basically handed the controls to a buncha provincial idiots (and the slime who migrated there to mold their mushy little minds in their own image), and got NOTHING in return.

The vote went through to split, so now what? Do we need anther election to vote in 2 new councils? A Lafayette mayor and a parish president? Do we have to write a new charter? How do we go about that?

None of these questions could be answered before this was thrown on the ballot. I'd bet money the powers that be have no clue what to do now either.

as someone that lives in Lafayette but has a business that runs off of people who prominently don't live in Lafayette, i can't help but disagree with your very strong opinion.
but i'm also not informed enough to argue at this point.

eta: also, didn't the split pass. so you should be happy right now.

I'm not even sure who the "powers that be" are anymore. Shifting electoral control TO the country has had that effect, I guess.

Knowing what you do would definitely color my opinion of that, but elementally, it simply isn't logical. Businesses give birth to workers, not the other way around.

You're right BHM, our sales tax rate high. (4.45% Louisiana + 4% City of Lafayette) I didn't realize it was a S/U tax, for some reason I thought it was property tax. (we've got some of the lowest property taxes in the nation)
