Too much empathy and too little empathy both lead to the same result… mass suffering and death

Take a look at this board.

You can talk all you want about culture and specific demographics, which I do believe suffer from the same issue.

But this board is riddled with lack of empathy for others.

like what, specifically?

We allow shite today in society that in the past, would have been shut down immediately.

Going a little further on your point. The biggest thing I notice on this site is how quickly everyone wants to shite on everyone, and aggressively at that! When they don't agree or know something the other person doesn't know for instance. I always think to myself, these people can't be happy, and even if they convince themselves they are, I would have 0 in common with them.

I think that’s a function of being on the internet. I don’t think the vast majority of people here would be like that in real life.

That in itself is a completely different, but valid I think, issue. There’s the real self, then there’s the make believe internet, social media self.

As you get older, you see that the object of your empathy is usually a piece of f*cking filth who thinks he/she is entitled to something because of some physical characteristic that they possess.

It’s the same reason why so many young Democrats become Republicans when they get older and wake the f*ck up.

From the wise lyrics of Cody Jinks “No Words”.

My whole view of the world has changed
I guess that comes with age
I don’t believe there’s good in every man like I did back then

It’s hard to find empathy for others when you’re as exposed to people’s worst behavior as much as we are at the swipe of a finger.

For some reason, you seem like a good guy.

I get your quandary and frustration with it.

I’m glad we’ve had a chance to communicate about this issue.

I hope this helps, Jim.

When you get desensitized to people's bullshite, your empathy drops. Which happens as we age. Hence so many young bleeding hearts, and a whole lot less older ones.

I used to work in a call center for Geico here in BR where my job was to go in after hours and call hundreds of people to let them know their insurance lapsed due to nonpayment. Many times, it was people who had just started the policy and opted to pay 1/2 up front and the other 1/2 in 2 weeks, so they were confused 2 weeks later when it was canceled due to nonpayment.

Anyway, the first few days, I was so upset and apologizing to all the upset people.

By a week in, the absolute TRASH humans I was dealing with 90% of the time were on my last nerve. Within like a month, I became so desensitized that even the nicer people who got upset or cried about it (this was when you got fined in LA for any day without insurance) barely phased me anymore.

Really had to remind myself there's a difference in the 80% of the trashballs I was calling vs. the 20% sweet old people who just didn't understand.

If you depend on a politician as a model for your emotions, I have no empathy for you.

I don't, but if you look up to someone and respect them, why not use them as a role model?

Terrible, I throw my hands in the air approach. If you value humankind with an empathetic existence, then live it.

I don't, but many obviously do. A big reason our county is less empathetic IMO.

Could it be realizing that there are only so many truly good people out there and your odds of encountering them are slight?

Empathy comes from realizing there are no good people, that we all need Gods Grace or we are equally doomed. JMHO
