That's not the way the numbers work. The article is clearly misleading, but the numbers and methodology are probably sound.
The conclusions are where people should be rightfully suspect.

Yeah. The police im Chicago, Detroit and NOLA are just racking up the body count. Sure. Believe that.

It is an extremely extremely racist assumption.
They get away with it by making the preposterous assumption that LEOs are so racist that all black men, regardless of behavior, circumstances, location, etc look the same to them.
It’s just really crazy and irresponsible journalism.
They know the likely negative consequences of reporting it like this, but they don’t care.

The mortality rates are only taken from black males 25-29. Which is a super small group to use for their reference. You would think if this was so common, they would just use black deaths from 18-80. But my guess is that they had to skew the numbers so that it can factually fit their agenda. If they actually threw in 10, 20, 30, 40 years of black male adult life stats, I'm sure it would go against their agenda.
Also last time I pulled stats out of my arse, 84% of cops that shoot and kill black males from 25-29, are black themselves. Go figures.

Well, all of that and add in the fact that even based on their own data these same people are 31 times more likely to die of assault (very likely at the hands of another black man) than they are to die from a cop.
