The number one cause of death of black males 15-34 is homicide.

So “death by anal invasion” could be number 9 on the list with only 3 cases out of 100000 and we could call it an epidemic in the black community?

How many of those were in the process of committing crimes?

The most alarming point of this chart is that black males in this small age group are nearly twice as likely to be intentionally killed by another person (in pretty much all instances, I'm assuming, another black person) as they are to be accidentally killed by everything else in the world.

Which is directly tied to gang membership in the black community as well as living in lower socioeconomic status areas.

Black people living in CCLA are highly unlikely to have the same rates as ones living off Plank Rd.

That makes them 2.5 times more likely than white men and boys to die during an encounter with cops.

Does this study include the per capita rate each race encounters cops? and what is considered an encounter with police? Attending Citizens Police Academy, Being questioned for a crime, seeing cop drive thru neighborhood, being arrested, meeting police at neighborhood watch meetings, confrontations with police, inspection/registration check points, speeding, and so on. The type of encounters and per capita rate of these encounters has to be factored in any comparison of deaths in these encounters.

“That’s better odds of being killed by police than you have of winning a lot of scratch-off lottery games.”

I win on these things almost every xmas. That's a little misleading.

It's accurate, it's just intentionally misleading.

There are 21 million black men and boys in the U.S.

Therefore, 1 in 1,000 means that we’re talking about 21,000 black males.

According to the Washington Post, which tracks every police killing, roughly 200 blacks people are killed by police every year, with the vast majority being males.

Using that number of 200, it would take 105 years for police to kill 21,000 black males. And that’s not even taking into account all of the new black babies being born every day which grows faster than the death rate.

Yeah..that would equal out to 100/100000, which would have likely grabbed way more headlines.

1/1,000 is the cumulative numbers over your lifetime. 3.4/100,000 is the annual rate.

The actual study is behind a paywall.

Found a free link to the study with a quick Google Scholar search.

quote:

The average lifetime odds of being killed by police are about 1 in 2,000 for men and about 1 in 33,000 for women.

I demand equality and equity between the sexes!

And it appears as the 1 in 1000 number is a "lifetime odds" thing, not a mortality rate like the 3.4 out of 100,000 number in the chart is.

Edit to add: I'm not hip to social science publications, but why the hell is the Materials and Methods section the last thing in the body, after the results and discussion? Is that a way to have people stop reading the paper before picking it apart for it's questionable methodology?

Based on the assumption that every black guy has the same yearly chance of getting shot, which is absolute bullshite of the highest order.

If the police truly wanted to see black men die, all they would have to do is sit back and wait...

No one, and I mean no one, has been more violent to black men than other black men.

White police officers volunteer to go into black communities to help save and protect them from others. But that doesn’t fit the narrative that attempts to create preference and privilege above the rule of law.
