"StG incorporation" was never on my bingo card when buying this house.

We bought this house 11 years ago or so and we knew it wasn't in the proposed StG at the time. It's hard to believe this has been going on that long. I remember my wife and I discussing it and we decided that we didn't care.

What I am betting the city does is negotiate the amount that St George would owe in unfunded pensions

were they not funded by the taxes StG was paying, while getting dick, and a haircut, for services?

Seriously, was this bitch required to put the money aside, in escrow, like in every other lawsuit? If she didn't, and squandered it, it is time to heat up the tar for the feather party.

Has anybody stopped by Marcy Ogre Piercing's office to call her a count, and laugh at her yet?

Love that MOP got her arse handed to her. Can’t stand that nasty person. Maybe she’ll finally retire and go live in a house of candy in the woods.

It all began with the unincorporated area wanting their own ISD because they didn't want their only options to be: (1) public ed in the shitty EBR school system, or (2) expensive private school tuition. Central and Zachary had done it. So why not "St. George". The city, mayor, and everyone told those in the area to "f-off. Go form your own city and MAYBE we will talk." So they did...with BR fighting it every single step of the way.

ALL they had to do so long ago was allow St. George to have it's own school system. But that meant the money would stop flowing into the the black hole that is the EBR school system. So here we are. Not only may the area now get its own school system, but its own damn city.

Now they can potentially set up their own schools and control their own police department.

I think the governor appoints some members of the first city government but they’ll probably have an election for all that very soon.

As a non-Louisiana resident, are the circumstances of St. George completely unique? Or are there other similar areas across the state that may incorporate in response?

Actually Central already did what St George wanted to do.

The circumstances in EBR probably are different in that we have a different plan of government than all the other parishes except I believe Lafayette Parish. It’s a consolidated City-Parish plan.

there are some other examples in the Baton Rouge area that weren’t an issue

the unique thing here is that democrats personally sued to prevent it.

Glad to see that the will of the voters is being observed, haven't read the opinion yet but what is the amount that Baton Rouge has to give St. George

As someone who isn't living in BR, why the hell does this even matter? So what, you get your own town. That doesn't change much. Still paying taxes that go to the poor through state income taxes. Property values stay the same as there is no change in neighborhood demographics, just on a large scale by separating two cities, but no one is transferring houses. They can still drive through the area. The only thing this changes are some census data on wikipedia pages.

This won’t help Baton Rouge but they brought it on themselves with poor government.

Getting the go ahead should never have taken this long after the vote passed. I can't wait to move there after my stepdaughter finishes Zachary High in four years.

SB255 by Fields has passed both Houses and was brought at the request Landry and Murrill. It redraws the LASC map and creates a second black majority district. It’s to effectuate a settlement in litigation brought by the NAACP.

50 million dollars of tax revenue was going to Baton Rouge's general fund and not being used to support St. George. Now that money is going to be kept in St. George
