yea, hes probably giving himself overtime for a couple of years to pad his retirment pay.

He'll probably make 400K+ for 30+ years "retired".

Gotta raise those taxes.

He was the captain, and over half of his 500k came in overtime pay

His salary is 150k. A salary of 150k for a Captain in California seems reasonable to me

Not to mention what the cost of living is there. In a place that cost of living is so high if you want good qualified employees you will have to pay a premium. YOu definitely want a life guard to be good and qualified.

Your math is way off and you don’t have enough info from the article to make a decent guess on what his schedule is like. Seems reasonable that there could be a lot of shift work similar to fire departments so this guy could be getting overtime for 24 hour shifts or something similar. Do that for a few multi week/month assignments and it makes more sense than the picture you’re painting of a guy sitting at a desk for 16 hours a day between Mon-Fri.

I never said that.

If you said people steal too much time, I'd agree with you

Its a fricking swimmer that knows first aid, who schedules other swimmers.

His supervisor is a moron and incompetent.

They are members of the fire dept

For example, a chief(equivalent to captain) in the Baton Rouge fire dept has a salary of 145k

Seems like California is getting off cheap paying the captain 150k considering cost of living

I thought that this was obvious.

Apparently not for many here.

Brain surgeons make more without including their benefits. The top earning brain surgeon in LA will make a shite load more.

No one is disputing the salary, everyone is disputing the overtime because he's almost certainly stealing time to buff his pension, as we've seen numerous times.

This is extremely simple and it's embarrassing for you that you're defending this

If there is anything to be outraged over (and I'm not sure there is), it could be the amount of overtime he's getting for what seems like it could be a salaried position.

If you had any clue, you would see his OT for a shift position like he is in is very attainable. Especially in the last few years with labor shortages

500k is corruption or malfeasance.

For starters, Daniel "Danny" Douglas, and other high-earning lifeguards listed by OpenTheBooks.com, serve on specialized teams that travel to other parts of the state and even the country to assist in emergencies such as wildfire disasters. Last year, Douglas alone served 114 days on a COVID incident management team, and 70 days on fire incident management teams on six separate fires in addition to his service as an ocean lifeguar

Curious what his actual schedule looked like and how OT is structured and triggered. He has 184 days of work not being a lifeguard.

COVID incident management team sounds like a complete load of bullshite to pad his OT

I tried to be nice, but you are fricking clueless. I have witnessed women in their 20s work this OT amount in a hospital. I’m sorry it completely escapes your brain power to understand it’s possibility
