You have casinos but you want to keep them at a competitive disadvantage with the neighboring state.
If Texas ever legalizes gambling you might as well shut down all the casinos in LA

None!
Just like now, for those who want to open up "truck stop casinos" that only has video poker machines.

Mississippi revenues are mentioned in the note. It's barely "millions" in total, so it's not likely it all came from Louisiana. Factoring in enforcement expenditures, Louisiana isn't losing much.
Mississippi was on pace for $4m for the first year. That is just in sports betting.
I wonder what the increase in hotel rooms, food & beverage, other gambling is?

it's only $4m in the 50th ranked state, who cares man? there's nothing else we could use that money for.

i didn't say christians. i went to catholic grade school and high school. but the atheists didn't send people to the legislature to lobby against this. christians did.
You still didn't show me where christians were legislating anything. Were they lobbying? Yes. There are tons of "lobbyist" but that is far different from legislators.
I saw that amendments killed this bill and the main one was trying to allow 2,800 shitty trucks stop style places the ability to take bets.
So, sounds like you just have an axe to grind against christians without any facts.

from what i just read in your link it looks like MS made $2.6m in revenue in only 8 months.
Yes that's their revenue. Now you'd have to subtract their direct expenditures to figure out the actual fiscal impact.
quote:
it also says it would take LA $2.1m to train 20 people, 4 of whom are LSP
I see your problem. You can't read.
From the link:
quote:
The first year costs to operate and equip this staff group is some $2.1 million ($347,000 in initial system setup and equipping and $1.756 million in personnel and operating costs).

i'm also a big fan of how you're minimizing the state getting millions of badly needed dollars in exchange for letting citizens do a harmless thing in their own states rather than allowing all that money to go elsewhere.
Not true. I'm for sports betting. I believe people should be able to lose their money however they see fit, so long as the state is breaking even on costs. I'm just pointing out the minimal fiscal impact the proceeds would generate.

And you are wrongly looking at only one piece of it. The casinos can hire more people. State and local taxes from F&B. State taxes from higher income taxes from casinos and payrolls. Higher hotel taxes and on and on and on.

the disconnect appears to be that you are extremely stupid.
from your link.

Assuming such laws enacted in this session and voter approvals occur at the fall election, in order to implement the bill, state police anticipates the need for 20 positions (4 troopers, 14 auditors, and 2 investigative specialists). The first year costs to operate and equip this staff group is some $2.1 million ($347,000 in initial system setup and equipping and $1.756 million in personnel and operating costs)
on what planet does it take $2.1m in the first year only to train/equip 20 government employees to do just about anything?

when the Louisiana jews, muslims and atheists start lobbying against shite like gambling on religious terms you'll have an argument.

This would be the economic angle worth looking into. My personal opinion from other activities I've reviewed, not much. People have a set amount of disposable income for these gambling based destinations. You're more likely to see a reduction in other forms of gambling than an increase. But I recognize I could be wrong in that.

This went on a statewide ballot. People voted. Wasn’t a ton of hype around it, so it seems like the final vote counts were an actual representation of how people in this state feel about it. It was to be allowed in some parishes and not allowed in others.
How the eff does it then goes before state legislatures and they even have the opportunity to kill it??? How can those same people not know about these “national state rankings” and just see overall in so many more ways than just this how we are not progressive and being left behind by every other state. It’s small things like this that add up to leading to new graduates leaving this state for better opportunities.
Man, this is bullshite...

Its 20 people including salary and everything they need to do the job. 2.1 isn't some crazy number

where does the word "train" appear in the expenditure breakdown? personnel costs are everything from salary, related benefits, retirement, etc. Not "training".

Sports Betting Fuels Casino Revenue Uptick
Yeah, you need to do some more research. Also, notice that all of the casinos in Baton Rouge started losing revenue and laying off employees after Mississippi started taking bets at casinos.

Not every person who voted NO today is against sports gambling. They're against the bill as in it's current state with the amendments. They can't vote YES if the Louisiana casino commission is AGAINST the current form of the bill. They would lose out on all their handouts
These reps better damn well quickly issue press releases, talk to their media friends, etc, and explain themselves if this is the case. Otherwise, they will be considered just as pathetic as the reps who are totally against sports gambling.

Exactly. JBE has us up to #24 in total tax burden. What are we getting for this? 48-50th rankings in every category?
