Not every person who voted NO today is against sports gambling. They're against the bill as in it's current state with the amendments. They can't vote YES if the Louisiana casino commission is AGAINST the current form of the bill. They would lose out on all their handouts.

No other state has laws where you can just walk into a bar room and place a bet on a team at a book.
the bar room would have to be willing to have a book on their premises and deal with all the regulations and restrictions that would entail, no?

Vote them all out.
they will be replaced by a new set of nearly illiterate assholes who are only concerned for themselves. that's at least 50% of the population and 100% of the population that wasn't to be a politician in this state.

frick them anyway. they had over a year to get this shite figured out. instead of missing out on millions for one year uncessarily, it will be at least two because they're all incredibly stupid and greedy.

no they don't.
I can place any fricking wager on blackjack or craps or sports at bovada and there is not a damn thing any casino can do about it.
this is just a blown opportunity to collect state taxes that I'll gladly continue to pay overseas

Who added the amended for the 2800 video poker locations? That is who we should be mad at whoever did that did it knowing it would kill the bill

it seems like it would be more christ-like to let people use their free will (to an extent) and then let God sort it all out at the end
seems like you should get off of FB.

i guess not the ones who claim to represent all of Louisiana's baptists, who actually went to the legislature to lobby against it tho. maybe you baptist folks should get people actually represent what you claim to believe in there.
Let’s not act like the southern Louisiana Catholics are doing a great job at electing good representatives to represent them either.
In any case, my fiance’s Dad (another NLA Baptist a-hole) is the director of casino operations at a casino in Bossier. He just got back from Biloxi last week learning about sports betting, he said probably this time next year we’ll have sports betting.

Those who were against sports betting, knowing all well it would fail and the LA casino commission would be against it. They tried adding this on the 22nd and Rep James asked for revote and it was taken off.
They tried it again today and were successful

It hasn't been posted yet, but I watched it and the vote wasn't close. Only around a handful plus were for it out of a 25 person committee. Several members weren't there for the vote. Senator Martiny had a look of surprise on his face after hearing how some of the members voted. He walked out of there pretty pissed.

Martiny has been there for like 100 years and apparently can't get anything positive done for the state so get him the frick out. you'd think him and his boy Alario would be issuing some thinly veiled threats before this vote.

you don't have to imagine it. Look at California. San Francisco, specifically. Hypodermic needles and shite on the streets. Homeless people living in boxes in front of your million dollar mansions. Sounds lovely. OR Detroit. Or NOLA. How are those pumps working anyway? Are all the statues down yet?
You should move there.

Laughable this was lost over trashy arse video poker locations. So Louisiana.
The winners here are Oklahoma and Mississippi. They are licking their chops while L'Auberge etc are laying people off.

Can anyone point to where Christians killed this? It sounds like it was 2,800 video poker sites that killed it along with other amendments. It passed Senate.

The leaders of this state are as inept as they come regardless of which party they belong.

i mean did you not see the photos from inside the MS coast casinos they day they opened the sportsbooks?
I'll take that as a "no"
SB153 Fiscal Note
Mississippi revenues are mentioned in the note. It's barely "millions" in total, so it's not likely it all came from Louisiana. Factoring in enforcement expenditures, Louisiana isn't losing much.

Who could have possibly seen this coming?
Posted on 5/28/19 at 2:15 pm to SpeckledTiger
from what i just read in your link it looks like MS made $2.6m in revenue in only 8 months.
it also says it would take LA $2.1m to train 20 people, 4 of whom are LSP
i'm also a big fan of how you're minimizing the state getting millions of badly needed dollars in exchange for letting citizens do a harmless thing in their own states rather than allowing all that money to go elsewhere.
