His parents lived next door.
That’s how they made the connection…his dad kept his gun (the .357) in the fridge and a day or two later he noticed it was missing. And they connected the dots and arrested ALD. When the story was on the news you could see him standing in the driveway when they were wheeling the bodies out of the house. I guess he was admiring his work.
Unimaginable. I'm so sorry.

Frick this dude. Deserved every bit of that botched execution. Still too good for him.

Death Row is easy time. Single cell, self isolated, no real threats, no real chance of getting r*ped all time, easily avoid prison politics. At his age, by the time he exhausts all of his appeals and shite, it’s time to die anyway. Life, that’s going to be hard time.

Did the police ever release how he found out about these girls/guy and the house? I know he lived relatively close by but he lived in a different town and from everything I read had no connection at all to these kids. How did he find them?
To the person who mentioned how he would have killed again, that's actually a theory for why there are fewer serial killers today than in years past. Guys like this who in decades past may have gotten away with it and killed others, tend to get caught after the first time now and get locked up for decades right away. The police methods have gotten much more advanced and that's one of the benefits of it.

I have so many questions
Everyone always assumes the "target" was the girl who lived upstairs and that's why he went up there first
But why was she a "target" to begin with?
Why her?
Why that house?
How did he find her? Did he ever interact with her?
So many questions that need to be answered

Don’t care. If someone deserves to die like this piece of shite, the money should be spent
Now they can spend that money on other killers, drug dealers, and general police work.
ETA: Reportedly 2 of the families supported the plea deal.

I get the anger about not being able to watch him fry, but I fall more in line with this line of thinking. This plea: 1) guarantees that no rogue juror or appeals process can keep him from being removed from society forever; 2) saves tons of money and resources on trials, appeals, etc.; and 3) keeps the world from having to relive the crimes through the trial process. I think the DA has a duty to the public first and this is better for the public as a whole.

Not justice. I bet those college kids also entered plea deals for their lives. This smug frick will live out his days in the prison library learning and maybe even growing as a human, all things he snuffed out forever for his victims. The reason we have the legal system is so families don't take justice into their own hands, not to save money or resources for the public.
For those supporting this, I want to see you say the same thing if it was your kid. He's a PhD candidate. He's not about to spend his life in solitary.

As part of his plea, he will apparently not have to explain himself or answer why he committed the crimes as part of the deal, according to a source close to the case.
…The Goncalves expressed their disappointment with what they described as a "secretive deal" on Monday and issued another statement Tuesday saying they want Kohberger to confess in court.
"We stand strong that it is not over until a plea is accepted. We will not stop fighting for the life that was stolen unjustly," the Tuesday statement said. "If you feel called or moved to try to make a difference, please contact the Ada County Courthouse to express your thoughts or feelings. While we are cognizant that some may have wanted the plea, the prosecution relayed to us it was NOT a majority vote that was the deciding factor in offering this plea."
The family is further asking the court to "require a full confession, full accountability, location of the murder weapon, confirmation the defendant acted alone, [and] the true facts of what happened that night."
"We deserve to know when the beginning of the end was," the statement reads, adding that a confession "should be the minimum price to pay for his own life."
Mr Goncalves may try to give Kohberger the death penalty all by himself.

According to this Newsweek article, the hearing will be live streamed by the court at 11 am MDT, 12 pm CT and 1 pm ET.

It will be disappointing if he doesn't have to tell or give a statement on why etc... which appears to be the case. Are the victims' families allowed to speak since he's pleading?

Right. Which is why Mr. Conclaves is so pissed about this deal. They may never know the answer to any of these. Now, I think BK is the kind of narcissistic a-hole that won’t be able to keep his mouth shut the next 40 years and will eventually start doing interview and running his mouth. He’ll probably help some folks write books about him. But I’m not sure anybody could ever truly believe anything he says because he’ll want to make himself look as good/smart/grandiose/important as possible.
Heard a couple of attorneys yesterday suggest that the judge denying his defense to be able to enter the 4 alternate perps into evidence was probably the last straw. And that both his parents were likely to be key witnesses for the prosecution. His dad for the conversation(s) they had on that cross country trip back to Pennsylvania, and (and I didn’t know this) his mom because he called her at 6 a.m. the morning of/after the murders (so like less than 2 hours after) and had a 1 hour conversation with her.
The tv attorneys thought his attorney may have just said, “Dude, you’re fricked. You gave me nothing. Could you at least see if we can spare your life and your parents the humiliation of testifying against you? Every depraved thing you’ve ever done will come out.”
And nobody said, but could the parents be charged with anything? I’m sure they’d give them immunity so they couldn’t just plead the 5th, but I don’t recall anybody mentioning them possibly being charged with anything “accessory after the fact” stuff.

This is not rational in any way.
I agree with you to an extent. Typically though, victim families are wrought with exacting vengeance and are naturally emotional.
However, the DA doesn't need to "clear" anything by the family nor should they. They should however consult with the family about their desires for justice.

BK didn't learn much in school, apparently.
He gave himself a thumbs up in a selfie after the murders even though he had to know he left the sheath at the scene.
The prosecution had him. BK staked out the place for months before the crime. The prosecution had so much more than we knew about. There was no way he would have been found not guilty as charged. The only question may have been whether the jury would have given the death penalty assuming that's decided by a jury rather than the judge. Santa Claus got emotional toward the end of his recitation.
BK appeared cool as a cucumber during this proceeding. He didn't fidget and he definitively answered the questions about the murders in a clear strong voice.
The big questions remaining are why he did it and why he picked that house? Did he just want to kill some people to see if he could get away with it and this house had residents who didn't lock the doors?
There was a document the judge referenced that the defendant confirmed he signed and prepared I think. I wasn't clear on what it was and I wonder if it was his recitation on what he did.
Sentencing and victim statements will be in July 23rd.

That's not required and they obviously didn't consult with the families ahead of time. I think it's more of a moral move to do so and I think they should have met with the families to give them a heads up first and let them digest it, though they didn't have to do as any family directed. Obviously, we now know some families are glad it's gone this way and some are not.

He was in the first year of a PhD program and just had lost his teaching fellowship which meant he had really messed up somehow. Also if he kept going, he'd have to pay his own way for three or four years.
I have a vague notion that he lost that 'job' because of student complaints. If so, he wasn't going to get it back.
